The First Roll: A Leap of Faith and a Northern Ontario Legacy
Tintlife started because I was backed into a corner.
Five years ago, after my mother passed away, I did a 23-hour marathon drive to Toronto and back just to bring her ashes home. I finally crashed for a few hours of sleep, only to wake up to a text telling me I was fired. I was grieving, out of a job, and at a total crossroads.
While clearing out my mother's apartment, I found some money she had tucked away—a surprise I hadn't expected and the sign I needed to finally bet on myself. I took that money and bought my first roll of film.
The beginning was a pure grind. I worked out of a tiny garage where trucks and SUVs wouldn't even fit. I’ll never forget the generosity of a local competitor who stepped up and let me use his shop to get those bigger jobs done while I was finding my feet.
That same determination to deliver is what drives me today. Five months ago, I had an accident on a Monday that left me with a broken leg and ankle. By Friday, I was back in the shop working. I’m still struggling through the recovery, still limping with a cane, but I have refused to slow down or compromise on the quality and availability you guys expect.
Because of this chapter and the support of this community, my life has completely changed. What started with that one roll of film allowed me to finally buy a home to call my own, and most importantly, it’s how I met the woman I am now happily married to. This business didn’t just give me a career; it gave me the life and the family I have today.
Now in our 6th season, Tintlife has become a name highly recommended and trusted by the hardworking people of the North—the thousands of loyal clients who have backed me and kept this shop running, plus the local businesses and dealerships all over Northern Ontario. I’m no longer grinding paycheck to paycheck, and that is 100% because of the trust you’ve placed in my work.
It breaks my heart that my mother didn't get to witness this chapter. It’s been 5 years since her passing, and this year especially, it weighs heavily on my mind. I’ve spent a lot of time lately just missing her and thinking of her, but I hope she’s looking down proud of how far we’ve come. To celebrate 6 seasons and say thank you for the word-of-mouth that built this shop, I’m giving back.
