This milestone reflects more than two decades in business. It also celebrates the remarkable career of owner Al Swerhun, who has been servicing and repairing RVs since 1973. Together with co-owner Katherine Swerhun, Al has built a business recognized for its expertise, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the RV community.

Today, Al's RV Service & Repairs serves customers from across Northwestern Ontario, including Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Marathon, Nipigon, Dryden, Kenora, Fort Frances, and Red Lake, while also welcoming RV owners travelling from neighbouring U.S. states. As one of the region's only dedicated RV repair facilities, the business continues to play an important role in supporting RV owners and helping keep them safely on the road.

It's a busy time here at Al's RV Service & Repairs serving Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario.
It's also incredible to realize that on Monday July 20th we celebrated our 20th Anniversary here on Alice Avenue - starting as a small one bay shop with just Al (who has 53 years of RV service experience) doing the repairs and Katherine manning the phones & admin.
In the 20 years we have grown, we outgrew our one bay quickly and expanded our shop; with our one bay becoming a parts store, and building 3 full size service bays to accomodate the 40' units.
Our staff has grown to 5, with over the years staff coming and going, the RV industry is not like in the past when you started in RV service you stayed in RV service and learned the trade. Many have come through our doors and many have moved on, this just being a stepping stone for the younger generation. But, we are very fortunate to have on staff the Best Service Technicians in the business - they know their stuff and they care about the customers units.
Our main tech has been with us 13 years and he is the best in all aspects of RV service, especially the undercarriage and slides. Our other tech as been with us 6 years and he specializes in the construction aspects of RV's, teardowns and rebuilds of walls, roofs, floors and slideouts plus all the repairs in between. Unfortunately, every one here is in their mid 60's, therefore our hours are Monday to Thursdays as we just cannot do 5 days a week anymore, health is a priority. New RV technicians seem to be non-existent in our area, which is sad as business is thriving and very much in demand. Our 3rd tech decided to come on board and learn the trade in December when we really needed him when health affected one of our techs. Fortunately he has stayed on with us, as we try to catch up with all the work that needs to be done. Thankfully he is a fast learner.
We have also come to realize that we have become the only strictly RV service & repair shop servicing Northwestern Ontario from Marathon to the Manitoba border. Al continues to man the store front and is busy with parts and estimates and talking with the customers while scheduling and overseeing the work in the shop and every so often needing to get in and do service work while maintaining the lot and yard.
Thank you Thunder Bay and area for helping us build this business. We hope to continue to be able to service the area as long as physically possible.

Wow! where has July gone? Already the last week! Please note we will be Closed Monday August 3rd for the Civic long weekend. Our regular hours are Monday to THURSDAY 10am to 3pm.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the forest fires throughout our region. We have many customers and friends whose trailers are at the resorts where the fires are. Who are facing an incredibly difficult time. Some have already lost their trailers at their seasonal sites filled with years of memories.

Please follow all evacuation notices and emergency instructions. If you need a place to keep your trailer, when you are able to access it; while the resorts pick up the pieces, please come and see us.
We are thinking of everyone impacted, the resorts, the firefighters, first responders, and volunteers who are working tirelessly to protect what they can with the resources available to them.

Summer is definitely here! If you have phoned and left a message many weeks ago, please note Al is still working on returning phone messages, he will leave you a message if he gets your voice mail. We are overwelmed with the amount of phone calls coming in and only can return a few in any given day. Sometimes its quicker stopping in to see Al and talk directly at the store, Monday to Thursday 10am to 3pm or emailing him at [email protected]

Please note: we will be Closing June 30th promptly at 3pm to finally enjoy an extended Canada Day Long Weekend, reopening again Monday July 6th at 10am.

Wow! July 1st Long Weekend is coming up Fast! We will be Closing on Tuesday June 30th at 3 pm promptly for the Canada Day Long Weekend! Yes we are taking an extended long weekend 😄 Reopening again on Monday July 6th! regular hours 10am to 3pm.

If you need to send us photos or want to enquire on a service, please email us instead of sending via messenger; as Al does not use messenger and I only check it every so often and then need to forward the message to Al. Email address is found under Details.
Keep in mind we are very backed up with messages and it can take a week + to get back to you. Our Techs are also booked up with work currently in the yard and new repairs are going into late July or August with some exceptions.

What does “27 Skills” actually mean? 🚐🧰

It means no two days in the RV service trade are ever the same.

One technician might spend the morning diagnosing a power issue, the mid-day repairing a faulty appliance, and the afternoon preparing an RV for a family’s long-awaited vacation.

It’s a trade built on adaptability, problem solving, and continuous learning.
