A bearing service might seem like another expense, but ignoring worn or poorly maintained bearings can eventually lead to a damaged spindle, lost wheel or even an axle replacement.

Taking care of the smaller maintenance items before they become bigger problems can save you a lot in the long run.

Even a brand new trailer needs bearing maintenance.

It’s easy to assume that because a trailer is new, the bearings won’t need attention for quite a while. After the first season, we recommend having the hub assemblies removed so the bearings can be cleaned, inspected and repacked as needed.

If your trailer has just finished its first season and is due for bearing service, give us a call or send us a message.

If I’m helping someone spec an equipment trailer, axle capacity is one place I usually like to leave a little extra room.

More often than not, I’d rather see someone step up to 7K — or even 8K — axles than build the trailer right at the minimum needed for what they normally haul.

Loads aren’t always perfectly even, what you haul can change, and having some extra capacity gives you more margin instead of constantly operating right at the ceiling.

That doesn’t mean everybody needs the heaviest axle option available. The trailer’s GVWR, payload and actual use still matter.

But if I’m deciding where to spend extra money on a trailer, axle capacity is pretty high on the list.

I get asked pretty often which trailers I like best, so here are a few of my favourites from the Payload Series.

A lot of it comes down to what you’re hauling and how you’re using the trailer, but there are certain setups and features that just make sense for specific jobs.
