FALL CAR MAINTENANCE
1. Change Your Oil
Check your oil—if it’s dirty, change it. Most cars need an oil change every 5,000–10,000 km.
2. Check All Fluids
Inspect oil, brake, power steering, transmission, washer fluid, and coolant. Top off if needed.
3. Inspect Brakes & Tires
Check for worn treads (at least 5/32” depth), cracks, or bulges. Test brakes for responsiveness, especially in wet conditions.
4. Test Heater & Defrosters
Turn on your heater and front/rear defrosters now to make sure they work before cold weather hits.
5. Replace Wiper Blades
If your wipers leave streaks or don’t clean well, clean them first. If that fails, replace them—usually needed every couple of years.
6. Check All Lights
Walk around your car and make sure headlights, brake lights, signals, and interior lights all work. Clean cloudy headlights with a restoration kit.
7. Inspect Belts & Hoses
Look for wear or cracks. Replace belts every 65,000–100,000 km and hoses every 4 years or if worn.
8. Test Your Battery
Batteries last ~5 years. Have yours tested and check for corrosion or loose cables before winter.
9. Clean & Wax Your Car/Undercoat Vehicle
Wash off summer grime and apply wax to protect against winter salt and ice. Rinse the undercarriage regularly in winter.
10. Restock Emergency Kit
Update your kit with blankets, ice scraper, kitty litter (for traction), and road salt.
11. Replace Air Filters
Change engine and cabin air filters every 12 months or 20,000 km. Poor airflow affects performance and air quality.
12. Check Suspension System
If your ride feels bouncy, inspect shocks, springs, and struts. Replace shocks in sets of four if needed.
