IMPORTANCE OF MATRIX THINNERS VS. COMMODITY THINNERS

Problems will arise with use of commodity grade solvents. Possible issues include:
• Poor hiding, especially in white and pastel colors
Most cheap thinners do not dilute the pigment properly. When sprayed, they produce a cloudy film that requires several extra coats to cover. Certain dark toners will not dilute properly causing a color change to occur.
• Dark and dirty metallics and pearls
Cheap thinners do not properly dilute the basecoat and dry too fast causing dark and dirty colors once clearcoat is applied.
• Rough blend edge or halo
Cheap thinners contain high levels of acetone and other inexpensive fast solvents that can attack the coating on effect pigments.
• Lifting on edges
Cheap thinners contain inexpensive, aggressive solvents that may cause lifting on edges of improperly cured 2K primers or sensitive substrates.
• Dryer orange peel that shows in the clearcoat.
• Fast settling of pearls and metallic in the cup.
• Blushing or milkyness in the clearcoat from trapped generic solvents.
• Clearcoat peeling.

• No discount for paint user who does not buy Matrix reducer.

These problems far outweigh the minimal savings you will achieve with commodity thinners.
