5 Detailing MYTHS ⬇️
Two years ago, I was just starting out, learning as I went. Now, with a fully booked schedule and a mobile unit, here’s my advice…
1️⃣ Myth: Expensive foam cannons = “Better” foam.
I’ve used the same $30 foam cannon off Amazon for 2 years now. DO NOT waste your money on the expensive ones. They all do the same thing, the amount of “foam” is based off your PW. Thick foam just takes longer to wash off anyways, as long as the paint is slick, you will be good.
2️⃣ Myth: There is an “exact process” for everyone:
Everyone has their own system, you’ve got to find what works. Every car is a different puzzle. 🧩 Do some research, and some trial and error. Find out what works best for you.
3️⃣ Myth: Winter is “Off-Season”:
Thinking no one wants a detail when it’s cold. (Reality: Salt and brine are the #1 killers of cars; winter is actually the most important time for protection). January was actually my most profitable month yet.
4️⃣ Myth: Going D2D is a good way to get clients.
D2D is a grind that often attracts ‘cheap’ clients looking for a bargain. If you want high-value clients who respect your craft, focus on SEO, Google Reviews, and Social Media. There are SOOO many ways to get clients online. Let the customers find you, not the other way around.
5️⃣ Myth: You don’t need a lot of money to get started
While you don’t need a million bucks, budget equipment is a TRAP. I learned early on that investing in the big 3: a professional air compressor, a steamer, and a high-suction vacuum, isn’t just a ‘flex’—it’s a necessity. If you’re going to be committed to the business, Invest in quality tools early.
