A single modern cargo ship can carry upwards of 20,000 steel shipping containers.
To put that into perspective, if you unloaded just 1 of those mega-ships and placed every container onto a semi-truck bumper to bumper, that line of trucks would stretch for nearly 400 kms, long enough to line them up single file all the way from Vancouver to Kelowna.
Moving that massive volume without gridlocking the port comes down to hyper precise timing. Every truck has to hit the dock at the exact minute its container lands, or the domino effect hits store shelves days later.
Next time you pass a semi on the highway, you’re looking at just one moving piece of that 400 kms chain keeping the world in motion. 🚢+🚛
