Keep sharing this folks!!! We need help to make this happen!!!
Ok Stephenville & Surrounding area - LISTEN UP.
We have owned the Speedy Glass Franchise in Corner Brook since 2019. Come August of this year, we will have been in Stephenville for two years. For two years I have been trying to find a way to make Red Bag Days happen.
Red Bag Days is a community initiative that was started in August of 2019 as a way for us to give back to our community. If you follow our Speedy Glass Corner Brook page, you will see that this is a HUGE deal and it's been unbelievably successful...and giving back to our community isn't just important to us - it's the backbone of our business.
The idea is to distribute our Red Bags to members of the community (individuals, families, businesses, sports teams, groups, etc) to fill for the local food bank, and for each bag filled, the donor receives an entry for a pizza party compliments of Speedy Glass. To even the playing field, we award TWO pizza parties - we understand that a family may want to give and can fill one bag, whereas a business with many employees may fill twenty bags. BOTH donations are equally important, so there is a pizza party draw for families/individuals, and one for businesses/organizations/groups.
We now collect in Howley (my hometown, which is serviced by the Deer Lake Food Bank so all donations from Howley go there), Deer Lake (all donations stay in Deer Lake), Pasadena (all donations stay in Pasadena), and Corner Brook & the Bay of Islands (all donations stay in Corner Brook). This happens during the entire month of August, with the exception of Pasadena (because we need help!!!), which takes place usually in October or November.
To make a food drive of this magnitude happen, we need help. In Howley and Deer Lake I have friends and family who distribute the bags and collect the donations, and a business cohort who acts as a drop off hub for bags so we have one stop to make on delivery day (thanks to West Coast Diesel Ltd. for that). In Corner Brook, myself and my Speedy Glass team make it happen, and it's gotten so huge that Midland Courier has voluntarily come on board to transport all the bags to the food bank so we aren't making trips back and forth the entire day! In Pasadena, we had the help of the career students at Pasadena Academy who were responsible for distribution and collection and received credit for those community hours needed for graduation! Prior to that we worked with the Pasadena Leos to make it happen. How awesome is that?!?!
We are forever thankful to everyone who has helped make this happen. Because of this community, last year alone we have been able to collect and deliver:
$7894.10 worth of groceries & donations in Deer Lake
$7693.05 worth of groceries & donations in Corner Brook
$9200.10 worth of groceries & donations in Pasadena
That's right - last year alone we were able to help local food banks to the tune of $24,787.25!!! And it's all because we have such an incredible village.
We want to bring this to you - but we need help. We work with the food banks and we will deliver all donations collected. The food banks always return our bags for use the following year 😊.
If you are a part of a group, a class, or an organization and would like to be our "elves" for the Stephenville area, PLEASE REACH OUT! If you own a business and would be willing to serve as a "drop off hub," please let us know. Our communities need us, and we cannot do this alone.
If anyone wishes to see more photos, head over to our Speedy Glass Corner Brook page - and help us make this page just as full.😊
