One thing I talk about with customers is CLEANING. It’s one thing that most people don’t do, nor do they think about doing it. I get it, no one likes cleaning tools up after use. I don’t either, but I hate spending money on things to have them break. And I mean BREAK!
This is a great example of a commercial customer who uses their tools, but has also talked with me enough to know cleaning and servicing is needed. These things get used but they are trying to do the right thing having me clean and service 10 Quick cut saws and a few generators before the season starts.
It is so important to clean a machine. It does not matter if it’s a saw, mower, trimmer, blower or any other piece of equipment. They all need to be cleaned.
Why? That is the important question and there is a reason. Most of these pieces of equipment are what is called “air cooled”, that means they have a fan on them and it moves air over the fins of the cylinder to keep it cool. Heat building up can damage the cylinder and piston and wreck a machine. There is also air filtration on these as it needs to push air inside the cylinder to be able to mix with fuel and run, callec the cumbustion process. Clean air is important to keep contamination out as well as proper air flow. Think back to wearing a mask; It sucked, no pun intended! But think of breathing with a mask covered in cement or brick dust, mix of wood chips and oil on a chainsaw or grass, dirt and dust on a lawnmower. These machines need to keeo that out while ketting air in. I definitely wouldn’t enjoy breathing through a clogged and dirty mask. They all need clean air to run just like we do.
So why am I passionate about cleaning your equipment is to help you keep your equipment running? I’m all for being the go to person to help fix machines for customers, but I don’t want my customers spending money they don’t need to. Cleaning and caring for your equipment will go a long way to helping you maintain equipment, especially in an environment where most residential equipment is meant to be thrown away when it breaks down. So let’s try to keep those pieces of equipment running as long as we can and save money while doing it.
Reach out to us with any questions on these things. I’m looking at doing some information posts to help home owners understand the little things they can do to help keep lawn and garden equipment in tip top shape.
As dirty as these saws look, they all cleaned up pretty well with a few issues that were found and caught a head of time. They will now be ready to work for the company when needed once the warmer weather hits. Trying to keep you and your business running and working is one of my goals. It’s actually become such a big part of my business to help educate and help others. Not something you really think of when you think about lawn and garden equipment.
