Last week, Commercial’s Woodstock branch welcomed customers from Ontario’s utility industry for a hands-on day with the Terex Utilities Hi-Ranger LT40 and Viatec Inc's WorkForce PTO!

Customers had the chance to operate an LT40 while Viatec’s WorkForce PTO powered its hydraulic functions with no engine idling. Customers also toured our glove lab, checked out other utility builds at the Woodstock branch, and joined Commercial and Viatec staff for a BBQ.

We always appreciate the opportunity to host hands-on events to showcase our products and facilities!

Commercial Truck Equipment’s Ontario towing and recovery division, Canadian Towing Equipment, recently exhibited at the biggest Ontario Tow event of the year, the 2026 Professional Towing Association of Ontario (PTAO) Tow Trade Show in Kitchener!

We went all out for the show, with the clear highlight being the debut of our restored 1926 Graham Brothers chassis with a Weaver crane, which we displayed above our show pop-up shop! We brought seven total trucks, including a mix of light and heavy-duty wreckers and flatbeds.

If you missed the restoration at the show, you can see it on permanent display at Canadian Towing Equipment’s Ayr location year-round!

The Commercial Refuse team joined Waste to Resource Ontario (W2RO) yesterday for its 42nd Annual Golf Tournament at the Granite Ridge Golf Club in Milton, Ontario.

As a W2RO member, Commercial was glad to support this year’s tournament as a sponsor. The day also gave our team a chance to catch up with customers and industry partners on the course.

Thanks to W2RO for a fun day and another great golf tournament!

The Commercial Utility team was proud to sponsor and support the FortisAlberta Lineman Rodeo & Safety Expo, an event that brought together utility professionals and their families for a day at the company’s training site.

The rodeo gave Power Line Technicians the chance to showcase their skills, while attendees could also take part in substation tours, bucket truck rides and other activities.

Commercial greatly values the strong relationship we’ve built with FortisAlberta through many years of working together on successful truck and equipment projects, and we were glad to be on hand for questions, conversations, and support.

When utility equipment is extended, booms are under load, and the truck is off level, there is no room for error or assumptions.

Commercial tests all trucks with outriggers set and the equipment put through a range of positions and test loads. As part of testing to ANSI 10.31 or CSA C225 standards, units are also tested on a slope to account for off-level operation. Testing each truck as a complete system shows how the chassis, equipment, weight distribution and outriggers work together, giving the team a chance to make any necessary adjustments.

Stability testing is completed in-house at many of our branches across Canada and is a key process in ensuring safe, stable operation for all Utility builds.

It was awesome to join forces with Waste to Resource Ontario (W2RO) for their 31st Truck Driving Championship as a major sponsor.

We helped to raise $5,000 for Road Hockey to Cure Cancer, as well as brought a McNeilus Refuse/Garbage Trucks ZR ASL for a “Touch a Truck” event, giving kids an up-close look at the equipment.

Congrats to the winning drivers, and congrats to the W2RO on an exceptionally successful event.

Commercial Truck Equipment recently spent four days with the City of Nanaimo Local Government for a field demonstration of the McNeilus Refuse/Garbage Trucks Volterra™ ZSL™ electric side-loader, with our Refuse team on-route throughout the exercise to support operators. As Canada’s largest McNeilus dealer, Commercial is proud to see the Volterra running real-world residential collection routes.

Utility trucks regularly work around energized infrastructure, making the integrity of their insulated components critical to operator safety.

Commercial is extremely unique in that we perform our own dielectric withstand testing in-house to verify the insulation integrity of fiberglass booms, hoses, and related components before trucks head into the field.

Using specialized testing equipment, our teams can apply high-voltage DC current of up to 130,000 volts to identify potential issues that could allow electrical current to leak to ground during line work.

With testing capabilities at most of our Canadian branches, Commercial can complete this important testing without sending units off-site, reducing delays and allowing any issues to be addressed at the branch before trucks enter service.

Electrical wiring is a critical part of every utility build, connecting the chassis with specialized equipment like aerial devices, digger derricks, hydraulic controls, PTO systems, safety interlocks, warning systems, and job-site lighting.

What makes utility wiring unique is the complexity of bringing all these systems together. Commercial’s Utility technicians work from engineering drawings and manufacturer specifications to route, terminate, protect, and test each circuit, ensuring the chassis, equipment, controls, and safety systems operate together as intended.

The team also builds with the working environment in mind, protecting wiring from moisture, vibration, heat, and abrasion while keeping circuits organized and accessible for future service.

It’s detailed work that may be hidden once the truck is complete, but Commercial’s experience integrating these complex systems is a critical part of building safe, dependable utility vehicles.

The best product knowledge comes from getting behind the controls.

This week, members of our Commercial Utility team joined industry professionals at Terex Utilities’ manufacturing facility in Watertown, South Dakota, for the 48th annual Hands-On Training event.

This factory training gives our sales, product, engineering, and production teams valuable firsthand experience operating, flying, and moving the equipment. That knowledge strengthens every part of our process, from recommending the right solution to building and supporting it. It's how our team continues delivering best-in-class utility equipment solutions across Canada.
