The goal wasnât to make this 1991 VW Westfalia look new. It was to make 35 years of character shine again. đâ¨
Behind the scenes of a restoration that became much more than a traditional paint correction.
The client wanted the gloss and richness backâbut he also wanted to keep the deep scratches, worn stripes, vintage stickers and imperfections that tell the story of this Westfalia.
Getting there took almost 30 hours of polishing alone, carefully working through decades of heavy oxidation on the paint and fibreglass gelcoat roof. The challenge wasnât simply removing defects. It was knowing what to restore, what to improve, and what to preserve.
In many ways, this became an art project.
Once restored, the paintâincluding its worn graphics and vintage stickersâwas protected with System X Phantom 2K, System Xâs 15-year ceramic coating.
The heavily oxidized gelcoat roof was restored and protected with GYEON Marine GelCoat Ceramic, while the windshield and windows received System X Glass+, with the vintage stickers preserved and protected as part of the vehicle.
The result isnât a âbrand-newâ 1991 Westfalia.
Itâs still unmistakably this Westfaliaâscratches, stickers, faded stripes, memories and all.
Just glossy again. Preserved, not erased. And ready for more adventures. đâ¨
