In 2000 Canadian Electric Vehicles was approached by Los Angeles airport to design and build an electric powered aircraft refueling truck. Since then over 50 Isuzu three ton diesel trucks have been converted to electric power for this application. Customers have included Southwest Airlines (Texas, California), Air BP (Puerto Rico, Dubai, Australia, USA), PLH Aviation (Los Angeles – LAX) and Liquip
International (Australia). These vehicles are all still in service with many of them having been upgraded with current technology. This product is ongoing with new trucks shipped to England in 2009. Todd Maliteare, with his staff of technicians and engineers continues to offer contract research and development services for the design and prototyping of electric vehicles for various industrial applications. The Might-E Tug, electric towing unit, was designed and developed in 2000. Healthcare and industrial customers use Might-E Tug to reduce employee injuries by towing a variety of carts, bins, and equipment weighing up to 7,000 pounds. Over 150 Might-E Tugs are now in use in many hospitals, airports (Hong Kong), ferry terminals (BC Ferries) and manufacturing plants (Boeing, Detroit Diesel). At the Canadian Electric Vehicles manufacturing plant the primary focus is the Might-E Truck which has been in production since 2003. The Might-E Truck is a custom built, electric powered, utility vehicle. Road legal under Transport Canada regulations for Low Speed Electric Vehicles the Might-E Truck travels at a top speed of 40km/hr. These electric trucks work well as downtown maintenance trucks or in specialized applications such as local garbage pickup and grounds keeping. The Might-E Truck’s many service applications make it a versatile electric vehicle and is in operation at campuses (University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, University of Victoria, University of Oregon) parks and resorts (Whistler, Banff, Jasper) municipalities (City of Colwood, City of North Vancouver, Seattle, Santa Monica), by individuals (Welsley Mulvin of Southern Gulf Electric, Mayne Island), Fire Stations (Souix Lookout) and Government Industries (Bonaville Power Administration and Pickering Nuclear Plant). Canadian Electric Vehicles through the manufacture of Might-E Truck is helping make the necessary step towards greening our communities.
