Thoroughly enjoyed driving the black 240 at yesterday’s Shannonville Drifting event. I learned a ton about the car’s setup including caster angle change for self steer aggression, front shock adjustment for steering response and the biggest one of all, tuning front and rear tire grip balance for ideal backwards entry capability on factory steering angle. Running absolutely dead “scrap-pile”front tires with Greeva 08D in the rear made it a magical experience to throw the car completely backwards and wait at full lock for the de-gripped front to slide back around with ease. I believe front and rear tire balance is something that is way overlooked in drifting, with everyone trying to do their own thing, typically just overgripping the front to the max and putting trash tires on the rear, which is a mistake I used to do a long time ago. In my case (for this car anyways) I would recommend the exact opposite. Use the bare minimum acceptable front tire grip just to get enough turn in response, and maximize rear grip to prevent the car from spinning out at big angles, even in a car with 130hp. If you’ve never driven like this before, I highly recommend trying this setup. I wish someone would have told me this when I was first starting out in the drifting world. It would have solved a lot of problems for me.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk about drifting a relatively stock vehicle. Hopefully this information is useful to someone.
