“Don’t rush the process. Anyone can learn to pass a test, but mastering the skill takes time.”

That mindset has shaped Nasir’s career since he entered the trucking industry in 2015.

Over the years, he built experience driving manual tractor-trailers, hauling flatbeds, containers, reefers and dry vans, along with shunting in busy yards. Each role strengthened his understanding of safe, confident and professional driving.

Today, as an instructor at CHET, Nasir brings that experience into every lesson. He adapts his teaching to each student, focusing on strong fundamentals, good habits and understanding *why* things are done, not simply how to pass the road test.

His goal is simple: prepare students to become drivers that companies can trust and respect.

Robert’s journey in the trucking industry began at CHET. This November, he will celebrate nearly decade in the trucking industry. Along the way, he discovered that one of the most meaningful parts of his work was sharing the knowledge and experience he had gained.

“I am a firm believer in being passionate about what and how you teach, and making sure you teach people the right way.”

This belief shapes every student Robert trains. He understands that stepping into a truck for the first time can feel intimidating. What makes instructing so rewarding is watching the progress of a nervous new student into a confident and capable professional driver. For Robert, one quality stands above the rest: patience. He teaches students not to rush, not to chase shortcuts and never to overlook the responsibilities that keep everyone safe. “Never skip things that matter,” he says, especially critical duties such as pre-trip inspections. He also reminds aspiring drivers that a career in trucking can lead far beyond the driver’s seat. From safety and compliance to training, fleet management and leadership, there are many roads a professional driver’s career can take.

At the heart of Robert’s teaching philosophy is a simple but powerful standard: train every student to become the kind of driver you would trust on the road beside your own family. As he explains, “We have brothers, sisters, wives, husbands, our children and our families out there on the very same roads that we as professional drivers are on.”

That responsibility shapes the way he teaches. Every lesson is focused on helping students become patient, prepared and fully aware of their vehicle and surroundings, not only so they can pass a test, but so they can uphold a professional standard every time they are on the road.

Through every student he trains, Robert is helping build a safer, more responsible generation of professional drivers.

Starting January 1, 2027, applicants pursuing a full Ontario Class A licence must have held a full Class G licence, or an eligible equivalent, for at least six months before taking their Class A road test.
G1, G2 and motorcycle-class licences will not count toward the new requirement.

Eligible driving experience from other Canadian provinces and territories may be recognized under Ontario’s existing licence-exchange policies. Applicants can still complete their medical examination, knowledge test and mandatory entry-level training during the waiting period, but they will not be able to take the Class A road test until the six-month requirement has been met.

The change applies to full Class A licences, including manual and automatic transmission versions. It does not apply to restricted Class A licences or other commercial licence classes.
For future professional drivers, planning ahead will be essential. More experience behind the wheel can help build safer, better-prepared drivers across Ontario.

Green trucking does not begin on the highway. It begins in training.
Every responsible driver learns that small habits can make a big difference: smoother acceleration, controlled braking, proper inspections, better awareness, and safer decision-making behind the wheel.
These habits do more than protect drivers and equipment. They can also help reduce unnecessary fuel use, limit vehicle wear, and support a more efficient transportation industry.
At CHET, training is about more than passing a road test. It is about preparing drivers to move with skill, safety, and responsibility.
