A blind spot is the place that limits the driver’s field of vision. From the driver’s seat, the view is restricted from both side mirrors due to the parts of the car. Rear-view mirrors also have blind spots. A blind spot can hide anything from a motorcyclist to a sizable car. It is important to keep an eye on your mirrors, be aware of other vehicles, and always use your turn signals when making lane changes or other maneuvers. Failing to do so can result in an accident occurring due to blind spots.

Irving Gordon earned the Guinness World Record for the highest vehicle mileage on a personal car, with over 3,000,000 miles on his 1966 Volvo 1800S! Irving is estimated to have driven over 100,000 miles per year visiting car shows, with the longest stretch in one trip being New York to Vancouver, Canada. He has detailed the maintenance of his vehicle, saying that he changed the oil every 3,000 - 3,500 miles and changed the transmission fluid every 25,000 miles.

Regular car maintenance can be easy to forget. However, regular oil changes are important in ensuring the smooth operation of your vehicle. The oil in your engine lubricates the moving parts to reduce friction in the engine. When the oil is fresh, it lubricates at peak efficiency, and that reduces the daily wear and tear of running your engine. As the oil gets older, it gets dirty. As it gathers dirt and metal filings, its ability to lubricate decreases, and your engine starts to wear out faster. The longer you wait to get your oil changed, the more wear there is on your engine, which can increase the risk of an accident. Don’t wait too long past your mechanics recommended kilometers to get your oil changed.

Did you know? The word “car” is derived from the Latin word ‘Carrum’ which means “two-wheeled Celtic war chariot.” It’s essentially a slang term for “Carriage”!

Sometimes, no matter how careful you are, disaster inevitably strikes—typically in the form of an accident. Make sure that your car will be repaired to the best possible standard by finding an insurer that will pay for parts from the original manufacturer and for repairs at the auto body shop of your choosing.

While no one likes having to scrape snow and ice off their vehicle after a snowstorm, it’s a necessity for everyone’s safety. It is important to clean the snow off your car after a snowfall, especially from your roof. Large amounts of snow can become airborne when they fall off your roof or trunk, that can hit the vehicles windshield behind you. The buildup can also block your view when it flies off your roof. Both of these scenarios creates a hazard and can lead to an accident.

It’s important to touch up paint sooner rather than later even if your car has been in a minor fender bender. Chipped paint won’t adhere well to rust. So touching up paint on your car will help prevent rust before rust has a chance to form. All CSN shops can touch up your paint with our waterborne paint technology that will create a seamless colour match for all makes and models of vehicles.

Driving can be fun and freeing – until you get stuck at a red light, that is. The National Association of City Transportation Officials says that the average time spent waiting at a red light is 75 seconds, accounting for approximately 20 percent of all driving time. The average person spends nearly six months of their life sitting at red lights. That’s a whole lot of time doing nothing!
