Most of us vintage motorcycle owners/riders do a lot of our own mechanical work based on our varying levels of ability. Sometimes we need some help, and dealers and most shops will not touch anything made before 2000. With a lack of experience and parts availability, it’s probably just as well. Here in London, Ontario Canada where I live, there are a a few shops that specialize in older motorcycles, but slowly the owners are retiring, leaving few options.

I restore, and do most of the mechanical work on my bikes, but sometimes I need a helping hand from someone who knows vintage bikes and genuinely likes to work on them. Now that I have broken in my rebuilt 1973 Z1 motor and the weather is a bit cooler, it was time to balance the carburetors. I could not get #3 carburetor to synchronize with the others. I’m a 2 stroke guy and after some choice language and plenty of frustration, I decided to give my friend Matt a call. He specializes in vintage bikes and welcomes a challenge. It didn’t take him long to figure out that an internal part that raises and lowers the slide on carb #3 was slightly bent and Matt was able to quickly set things right and my Z1 runs better than ever.

Matt and his shop Big Dream Motorcycles here in London, offer quality service to vintage and modern motorcycles. I’m glad to know that he’s there to help when I am stumped with a problem or need his expertise.

This beautiful 1971 Kawasaki G4TR Trail Boss was restored by our customer Alan Ward in the USA. Our graphics were applied over the Candy Red paint. The dual range transmission, gives this little 100cc bike 10-speeds. Nice work Alan!
