With more snow in the forecast here are some winter driving safety reminders!

Pre-Trip Preparations

1. Good tires: Ensure you have good winter tires or all-season tires to help you stop and gain traction in the snow.

2. Emergency kit: Keep an extra jacket or blanket in your vehicle in case of a breakdown.

Safe Driving Practices

1. Lights on: Turn on your vehicle's lights to increase visibility during a snowstorm.

2. Give space: Leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front, and give yourself extra time to stop.

3. Slow down: Reduce speed when approaching turns to avoid sliding into curbs.

4. Avoid slamming brakes: Resist slamming on your brakes, especially if your vehicle doesn't have ABS.

5. Understand your vehicle's limits: Remember that all-wheel drive/four-wheel drive vehicles can help with traction but don't improve braking.

Emergency Situations

1. Sliding on snow/ice: Avoid slamming on your brakes if you start sliding; instead, steer smoothly in the direction you want to go.

2. Stranded: If you become stranded, turn on your hazard lights and ensure your exhaust isn't covered by snow.

3. Wait for help: Remain in your vehicle until help arrives or until someone can safely give you a ride.

General Safety

1. Check road reports: Avoid traveling if not recommended, and check road reports for the latest travel advice.

2. Move over for emergency vehicles: When you see a tow truck or other emergency vehicles on the side of the road, move over and slow down to help keep them safe.

Remember to be patient during increased wait times due to worsening weather conditions. Stay safe on the roads!

Due to adverse weather conditions, road safety has been severely impacted, with increased hazards on bridge decks and intersections. Last night's clearing operations addressed two multi-vehicle collisions on Whoop-Up Dr. and Highway 3, both located on bridge decks and impacted westbound traffic.

Presently, most highways are snow-covered and icy, necessitating cautious driving.

Please reduce your speed and drive to the conditions.
