Wishing we were motoring out of the harbour right now, but at least we're on the boat today! Lots of small jobs to attend to first to get Coast Ranger tickety-boo again (she doesn't like waiting around all summer for us).

Our friend, Roland Smith, took afew professional level photos of the boat. This stern view captures the canoe stern wonderfully as well as highlighting some of the work we still have to tackle on the funnel and brightwork (among a million little things, always).

Wow. We're completely blown away by the number of reactions and comments regarding our refit. While Commodores Boats did the majority of the work, there were many trips we made from Vancouver Island to Richmond on weekends. Our time was spent doing as many oddjobs, cleanup, scraping, and painting as we could to help. As interesting and educational as this project was, we're happy she's back home at her berth in Ladysmith. Thank you for everyone who is following along on the never ending journey of Coast Ranger. Now we just need to go on some journeys!

Well, after alittle over six months out of the water at Shelter Island Marina and Commodores Boats doing what started as a full coatings replacement but turned into an extensive rebuild and repair of several different areas. She was relaunched earlier this week and we brought her back home to Ladysmith today. It's nice to have her back but am grateful for the new lease on life we were able to get done.

The batwing and mast and boom were removed, she was stripped to bare wood, foredeck rebuilt with new deck beams, ribs, deck planks, and bulwarks. The after deck was glassed over to preserve it until next time. Some minor hull repairs, and lots of fairing, sanding, and painting.

The trip home proved that she is faster and rides great in the 3 and 4 foot seas we had during the crossing. It's been quite the journey!

Well, relaunching was planned for today, but one hull plank decided to be rotten. So to avoid sleepless nights or worse, Commodores Boats is going to change it out. We'll keep you posted. I'm going to provide a ton of pictures leading up to the ultimate reveal. I hope you'll all be amazed at the transformation...

Yet another early morning on the ferry to go check on, and do some work, on the old boat. The hull has its first coat of epoxy primer, the deck over the galley is almost fully glassed over (to protect it until we can do it right), the foredeck is done and the bulwarks are progressing. Jesse and I focused on prepping the gumwood guard for antifouling paint.

Another early morning trip to Richmond to do some work on the boat. We sanded, we heated and scraped and sanded more.. 9 minutes away was Ikea for lunch, then back for more heating, scraping, and sanding.

Some random photos from the last week or so. In no particular order, there's all the new foredeck decking and covering board, the roller assembly for the anchor before sandblasting and repainting, and Jesse cutting down the square nails so I could tap them out (saving the Commodores Boats crew alittle work). There's afew last deck planks to repair on the deck behind the wheelhouse, then hopefully we see her on the home stretch for getting put back in the water. We miss her!

Thought I'd share some photos sent to me from Bo, at Commodores Boats. The corner has been turned! After finding and removing the rot, new wood is building her back. We've got oak ribs sistered in, some yellow cedar deck beams, and fir covering boards and decking. Can't wait to go back and see it in person!

It's been a busy couple of weeks since the last post, and we've definitely seen some stuff we didn't want to see, but better to find it now. Crikey!

All the current issues are up on the foredeck and the repairs will give us many more years of worry free boating. The corner has been turned and she's starting to be put back together.

We have to thank Commodores Boats for looking after this for us and working with us to keep the project moving forward.
