When something goes wrong with your vehicle, it helps to know who’s actually on the other side of the counter.

So, meet Curtis Gasmo—owner of Mountain Transmission.

Curtis has spent more than 35 years working hands-on in the automotive industry and is a Red Seal Certified Technician. But around here, being the owner doesn't mean sitting somewhere behind the scenes.

Curtis is at the shop. He talks with customers. He helps diagnose problems. He works alongside the team. And, as anyone who saw our recent 1932 Ford post knows, occasionally he gets pretty excited when something special rolls through the door. 😊

For Curtis, one of the most important parts of the job is helping people understand what's actually going on with their vehicle before deciding what to do about it.

Because a strange noise, a warning light, or something that just doesn't feel right doesn't necessarily mean the worst.

Sometimes you need a major repair.

Sometimes you don't.

The first step is finding out.

That's the kind of shop Mountain Transmission is—experienced, straightforward, honest, locally owned, and accountable to the people who walk through the door.

So now, when you see Curtis behind the counter, you know a little more about the guy on the other side of it. 😊

Meet Curtis. Local owner. Technician. And the guy ultimately responsible for making sure Mountain Transmission earns your trust.

🚗 When a 1932 Ford Rolls Into the Shop…

Some days at Mountain Transmission come with a little extra horsepower — and a whole lot of history. 😊

This beautiful 1932 Ford stopped by recently for a simple fluid check, and it was far too nice not to share.

And yes, that's Curtis behind the wheel — he was thrilled to pull this classic in and out of the shop himself!

Nearly a century old and still turning heads. ❤️

Thanks to our new customer for bringing a little automotive history through the doors at Mountain Transmission!

☀️ Summer is a Great Time to Think About Your Transmission

When we think about summer driving, most of us focus on road trips, vacations, and making sure the air conditioning is working.
But summer is also one of the best times to give your transmission a little attention.

A simple inspection can help identify small issues before they become larger, more expensive repairs. Even when everything checks out, you'll have the confidence of knowing your vehicle is ready for the road ahead.

Whether you're planning a weekend getaway, towing a trailer, or simply enjoying summer drives around the Okanagan, preventative maintenance is almost always less expensive than unexpected repairs.

At Mountain Transmission, we believe in honest advice and helping you understand what your vehicle actually needs—no more, no less.

If it's been a while since your transmission was serviced—or you're simply unsure when it was last checked—we'd be happy to have the conversation.

☀️ Stay Comfortable All Summer

When temperatures climb, your vehicle's air conditioning becomes more than a convenience—it helps make every drive more comfortable, whether you're commuting across town, heading to the lake, or setting off on a family road trip.

If your A/C isn't cooling the way it used to, many people assume it simply needs more refrigerant. In reality, a professional A/C service involves much more.

A proper service includes:
• Inspecting the entire system
• Checking for leaks before recharging
• Removing moisture and contaminants
• Recharging with the correct amount of refrigerant
• Verifying that everything is performing as it should

Taking care of small issues early can help prevent larger repairs later while keeping your system operating efficiently throughout the summer.

If you've noticed:
❄️ Warm air from the vents
❄️ Weak cooling
❄️ Musty odours
❄️ Poor windshield defogging
❄️ Unusual noises
❄️ Frequent A/C cycling
…it may be time to have your system inspected.

At Mountain Transmission, we believe in honest advice, clear explanations, and helping you understand what your vehicle actually needs—no more, no less.

Warm Air From The Vents?

What Proper A/C Service Really Includes

Mountain Transmission now offers professional automotive A/C service for all makes and models.

Many drivers assume that if their air conditioning isn't blowing cold, it simply needs a refrigerant top-up.

In reality, your vehicle's A/C system is a sealed system. Refrigerant doesn't get used up like fuel. If cooling performance is declining, there is usually an underlying reason.

A proper A/C service involves much more than adding refrigerant. Professional technicians inspect the system, check for leaks, recover refrigerant properly, evacuate moisture and air from the system, and recharge it to manufacturer specifications.

Ignoring early warning signs can lead to larger repairs later, especially during the hot Okanagan summer.

Common warning signs include:
• Weak cooling
• Warm air from the vents
• Unusual noises
• Musty odours
• Poor windshield defogging
• A/C that cycles on and off frequently

At Mountain Transmission, we now offer automotive A/C inspection, diagnosis, recovery, evacuation, recharge, and performance testing for all makes and models.

Whether you're preparing for summer road trips, daily commuting, or simply want reliable comfort during the Okanagan heat, our team can help ensure your A/C system is operating properly.

Call us today at (778) 478-1520 to schedule an inspection.

Before the Highway, Make Sure Your Vehicle Is Ready
As the weather warms up across the Okanagan, many of us begin thinking about road trips, weekends at the lake, visiting family, camping, towing trailers, or simply spending more time on the road enjoying the season.

Summer driving often feels easier than winter driving — but in many ways, it can place just as much stress on a vehicle.

Long highway stretches, mountain grades, stop-and-go vacation traffic, hotter temperatures, and towing all place additional demands on critical systems like the transmission, cooling system, brakes, and drivetrain.

Most vehicle problems don’t appear all at once. They usually begin quietly.

A small hesitation shifting gears. A fluid leak. Slight overheating under load. A vibration that only happens during longer drives. These are often early warning signs that become more noticeable once vehicles begin spending longer periods on the highway.
That’s why early summer can be one of the best times to pay attention to preventative maintenance.

The goal isn’t to create urgency or assume something is wrong. It’s simply to reduce the chances of small issues turning into major interruptions later — especially during the busiest driving months of the year.

For vehicles approaching major service intervals, towing regularly, or preparing for extended travel, a professional inspection can provide valuable peace of mind.

A proper inspection may include:
• Checking transmission fluid condition and levels
• Looking for leaks or worn components
• Evaluating drivability and shifting performance
• Checking cooling system operation
• Identifying small concerns before they become larger repairs

Sometimes everything checks out perfectly.

Sometimes a small preventative service helps avoid a much larger repair later on.

At Mountain Transmission, we believe good vehicle care starts with clear communication and honest information. Our goal is always to help customers understand what makes sense for their vehicle, driving habits, and plans for the season ahead.

Before the highway, before the mountains, and before the long summer drives—it's worth making sure your vehicle is ready too.
If you have questions about preventative maintenance, inspections, or summer vehicle preparation, the team at Mountain Transmission is always happy to help.

Earlier this year, we were proud to support the Okanagan Forest Task Force by refurbishing the transmission on a donated tow truck — at no charge.

The Task Force removes over 100 abandoned vehicles from the backcountry each year, along with heavy debris from ravines and remote areas throughout the Okanagan.

As a local business made up of people who camp, hike, fish, and explore these same areas, we believe in protecting the land we all enjoy.

When we were asked if we could help, the answer was simple: yes.

We’re grateful to be part of a community that looks after its own — on the road and off it.

(Watch the Castanet coverage below.)

The Okanagan Forest Task Force is getting close to putting its new tow truck into action to help clean up the backcountry.
