This amazing photo shows two cars meeting between Peachland and Summerland on the future Hwy 97. Squally Point is above the car on the left. You can just read the year on the license plate of the closest vehicle, making this a photo from 1914. The cars are right-hand drive, as BC did not switch to driving on the right side of the road until January 1, 1922. Even Ford Model T cars were produced in right-hand drive (RHD) configurations, primarily for export to British Empire countries (such as Australia, New Zealand, and the UK) and for some Canadian markets. While the Model T is famous for pioneering left-hand drive (LHD) in the US, Canadian-built Ts frequently featured RHD to match local driving customs. Most RHD Model Ts were produced by Ford of Canada in Walkerville, Ontario, which supplied the British Commonwealth. Photo shared originally thanks to Steven James back in 2014.
