And just as fast, we're back from The SEMA Show 2024!
We squeezed past the media people and souvenir collectors to make awesome connections with people like Tony & Sherry at HP Tuners as well as Joel at Dynocom Industries, saw the new 2JZ block produced by Dart Machinery and Vibrant Performance's new oil coolers. Stopped by the Rohana Wheels booth (their wheels were on everything, everywhere) and had a fun conversation with their very enthusiastic designer and a customer-turned-sales rep - it's so cool to speak with people who love what they do. TEIN USA, Inc. had a dynamic display and have developed a new coilover wrench that we look forward to getting our hands on to help in the battle against seized lock collars. HKS had their FA engine parts on display and were handing out hammers for us to demo the Yamaha chassis dampers - not sure how relatable hitting a giant tuning fork with and without a shock attached to it is but I'm intrigued to see what it would do for NVH on some of the daily driven track cars we see.
We met up with other local friends Throttle Thrashers Garage /Cole & Chelsie, Little Diesel Shop /Adam, Boost Barn Motorsports /Aaron and JRP's Bryan but never did run into that hoser Jarrod form Jeklefab - Our sore feet and tired everything sure appreciated the beers and hospitality at the Shopmonkey booth every afternoon.
I think one of my favourite experiences was walking around outside early one morning Demin Cox and his BMX bike gang rolled up to a Tremec Battle of the Builders Porsche Safari, dumped out a tool bag and proceeded to wrench on it - if that doesn't say built not bought I don't know what does :)
Other things of note were the staggering amount of vinyl wrap manufacturers (and yet not a one was advertising racecar windshield tearaways!) and detail products - we perused the SONAX Carcare booth, nothing too new there, just some new packaging to take note of for our next restock.
I was excited to see quite a few proper race cars representing and accidentally photobombed many media people while checking out how the cars were assembled - I'm always trying to learn how the experienced teams do things in order to improve our own track cars, and while some stuff is pretty wild, there is no shortage of zipties, strategically installed shop rags, taped on labels and sketchy repairs too.
We saw so many incredibly complex builds—some of which it was obvious the cash cannon had been fired at liberally, and others the result of many many hours making and remaking a long-term investment in passion and self-expression.
Thanks for another great year SEMA Show!
Dave and I are feeling super appreciative to return to full schedule of work booked this week in the shop, so I suppose it's time to get over this super not-awesome airplane cold, order up those heated wiper blades we saw and find my work pants.
