Four people were hospitalized, including three in critical condition, following a serious crash on the Coquihalla Highway north of Merritt, B.C., Saturday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the collision near Exit 315 at Helmer Road around 8:35 a.m. Paramedics treated four people at the scene, with three transported to hospital in critical condition, including two by air ambulance. A fourth person was hospitalized in stable condition. The crash forced the closure of a 30-kilometre stretch of the highway between Helmer Road and Merritt for more than six hours before reopening around 3:30 p.m.

A ransomware attack on Burnaby’s school district has exposed sensitive personal information, including student records, identification documents and confidential educational assessments.

The district confirmed that cybercriminals accessed its systems on Sept. 21 and copied files containing names, contact details, birth dates and other personal information. Some compromised records may also include immigration documents, student diagnoses, specialized learning needs and employee personnel information. Although officials say the most sensitive information remains secure and the overall impact is limited, Burnaby RCMP and B.C.’s privacy commissioner have been notified. Families are being encouraged to watch for suspicious messages and potential identity fraud, with fraud alert registration offered as a precaution.

Vancouver has reached a new culinary milestone, with AnnaLena becoming the city’s first restaurant to earn two Michelin stars.

The Michelin Guide unveiled its 2026 Vancouver selection, praising AnnaLena in Kitsilano for its seasonal tasting menu, precise techniques, creative global influences and polished dining experience. The restaurant, led by chef Michael Robbins and operations manager Jeff Parr, had previously earned recognition among Canada’s top restaurants. The 2026 guide also added new Bib Gourmand selections, including Kavita, which celebrates regional Indian cuisine using local ingredients.

A man in his 60s survived after being struck by a train while walking along CN tracks in Surrey Tuesday evening.

Surrey police say the man was walking near the Golden Ears Connector and 182 Street when he did not hear or see the approaching train and was “clipped” while attempting to avoid it. He remained conscious and was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the incident does not appear to have been intentional, and CN Rail has taken over the investigation.

Vancouver police are cracking down on unsafe e-scooter riding, issuing more than 1,275 warnings and tickets during a month-long safety blitz across the city.

Helmet violations accounted for most of the enforcement, with police issuing 753 warnings and 167 tickets to riders without proper head protection. Around 450 officers have been monitoring schools, bike paths, crosswalks, intersections and popular routes near Vancouver’s beaches, while also watching for risky behaviour such as riding with passengers. Police say education remains a major part of the campaign as e-scooters become an increasingly popular way to get around the city.
