​The Kia Soul definitely has personality! It's an affordable, practical option with a famously spacious, boxy interior that offers great visibility and cargo room for its size. Newer models (2020+) are comfortable and packed with modern tech and safety features. It's a solid, fun-to-drive city car!
​However, know the common issues, especially with older generations:
​🔥 Engine Failure/Oil Consumption: The biggest concern, especially with the 2012-2016 model years. This is often linked to defective catalytic converters or piston rings leading to engine knocking, excessive oil use, or complete failure. This is a serious issue to be aware of if buying used.
​⚙️ Transmission Issues: Some third-generation models (2020+) with the IVT (CVT) have reported erratic shifting or failure, though this seems less common in newer models.
​🔊 Steering and Ticking: Owners of older models (pre-2016) reported clunking noises when turning (often the steering coupler) and various ticking/knocking engine sounds.
​🔒 Theft Risk: Some models are vulnerable to the "Kia Boys" theft method, so check if your model has an engine immobilizer or consider an anti-theft device.
