Every career starts somewhere, and for Arleen, it started with a decision to train at Northern Construction Academy.
After completing our Heavy Equipment Operator (4 Pieces) program, Arleen has gone on to spend the past three years working as an OPS 3 at Côté Gold Mine Iamgold.

One of the biggest takeaways from his time at NCA was learning to confidently operate a variety of heavy equipment, including bulldozers, loaders, excavators, and graders. Those practical, hands-on skills have carried over into his career every day.
Stories like Arleen's remind us why we do what we do. Seeing our graduates build long-term careers in the skilled trades is what it's all about.

This month’s feature piece of equipment at NCA is the Bulldozer!

A bulldozer is a powerful tool that is equipped with a metal blade on the front to push sand, dirt, rubble or rock. Bulldozers can come with either a set of tracks or tires. The tracks allow them to move heavy materials, maneuver over steep slopes and soft or muddy terrain, whereas the tires make them quicker and easier to handle, but offer less traction.

Often used for clearing land, spreading materials or grading, the bulldozer was invented by farmers in the early 1920’s. Student Success Spotlight 🌟

Meet Cassandra, one of our proud graduates from our Rock Truck & Loader programs.

After completing her training at Northern Construction Academy, Cassandra joined Z'gamok Enterprises Inc. (Z'gamok Construction), where she's now been working for 3 years. When asked what has stayed with her since her time at NCA, her answer was simple but powerful: "Knowing the machine and how to operate it safely."

At NCA, safety isn't just something we teach; it's the foundation of every program. Building confidence, developing real-world skills, and preparing students for successful careers in the skilled trades is what we're all about.

Our Heavy Equipment Operator Programs provide students with knowledge of maintenance, walk-around inspections, workplace safety and more. Learn how to safely and efficiently operate various pieces of heavy equipment, including a bulldozer, backhoe, excavator, grader, loader and articulated truck. Our experienced instructors will help you build the skills and confidence that employers look for.

With start dates every Monday, our heavy equipment programs are offered year-round and are perfect for beginners or experienced operators looking to sharpen their skills.
