Safety First Professional Driver Training was created from the realization that the Fort St. John/North Peace region needed a high quality class 1 driver training facility that recognized the particular challenges of commercial transport operation in the north. We aim to provide our students with the skills, safety, and knowledge required to operate a commercial transport vehicle beyond what is usually observed today. We believe that the time has come for truck drivers to once again become “ambassadors of the highway” and reclaim the respect of the motoring public, as they did years ago. Driver by driver, we will do this! The company was started by Barry and Tamara Wilkinson. As members of the local community, and users of local and industrial roads, we realized firsthand the need for safety based education for those entering the field of professional commercial driving. We were saddened to read headline after headline of more and more death and injuries on local roads, and chose to do our part to help the local community when starting up our business. Together we have 39 years of accident free driving, 24 of those professionally. Our aim is to give you the best education for your money in this field, and have you leave with the confidence you require to safely operate in today’s demanding conditions. We are licensed to legally train all classes of licencing except for motorcycles. At this time we are only offering truck driver training, but if you have other needs please contact us as we will be expanding soon!

It’s been a really great 16 years of providing high class commercial training to the North Peace, and in that time we’ve met so many amazing people!
Every day was a blessing for us, it was so heartwarming to see peoples lives change for the better as they achieved their commercial licences and gained meaningful high paying employment in our local transport sector.
we loved working alongside all of our first nations partners (thank you Doig, Salteau, Blueberry, Halfway and Fort Nelson First Nations for your business on your traditional lands) and thanks also to all of our local industry partners over the years (Garth and Steve at Rapid Wireline, big thank you!)
Due to family health issues we have sold the business to a former student who over the years has become a great friend also, and we are wishing Inder Bakshi all the best in continuing the best training school in Fort St John!
When possible, Barry will still be teaching some course material, his love of teaching wont let him sit idle for too long!
Thanks once again Fort St John and other North Peace Communities! It's been a pleasure!

We’ve had an incident involving inappropriate actions from another school regarding our student (it seems when you’ve been around the longest, do everything properly and are constantly voted best in the city, you become a target)
I won’t go into details as that would be inappropriate, but let’s just say that when you come to Safety First you will be treated with respect.
We don’t care where you’ve come from, your colour or accent, your gender or sexuality, your religion or beliefs, or anything similar.
We care about you, your feelings and your safety.
There is no room in our company for any type of hatred or discrimination, we choose peace and understanding instead.

Super proud to have not only taught this fine lady here, but also to become good friends with her!
She was a pleasure to teach, laugh with and all around have an enjoyable time!
She can operate almost any type of construction equipment (which his her entire background) and as of today is the north peace region’s newest class 1 driver!
