The biggest differences come down to tread design and rubber compound.

❄️ Winter tires use a softer rubber compound designed to stay flexible in cold temperatures. That flexibility helps the tire maintain grip when the road is cold, snowy or icy. Their tread also has more biting edges, sipes and deeper channels to help move snow and slush away from the tire.

🌦️ All-weather tires are designed to handle a wider range of conditions year-round. Their rubber compound balances cold-weather performance with the durability needed for warmer temperatures. The tread still provides winter traction, but it is designed to perform across multiple seasons rather than being optimized specifically for severe winter conditions.

If you spend a lot of time driving through snow, ice and consistently cold conditions, dedicated winter tires may give you the extra traction you need. If you prefer one set of tires year-round, all-weather tires can be a practical option.

Not sure what makes sense for your vehicle and driving habits? Stop by your local Tirecraft and talk to a tire expert!

Cooler temperatures in the morning can lower the air pressure inside your tires, which is why that warning light often makes its seasonal comeback in the fall.
Check all four tires when they’re cold and inflate them to the pressure recommended for your vehicle. If one tire keeps losing pressure, have it inspected. A slow leak may be the real culprit.

Today at Tirecraft 118 Ave, our team wore orange shirts in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This day is a time to honour Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities. It’s also a time for reflection, learning, and acknowledging the truths of our shared history.

Troubleshooting with Tirecraft: Why Won’t My Car Start?

It’s a situation almost every driver faces — you turn the key (or push the button), and nothing happens. Before you panic, here are a few things you can check at home:

Check the Battery Connections
Pop the hood and make sure the battery terminals are clean and tightly connected. Loose or corroded connections are a common culprit.

Test the Lights
Turn on your headlights. If they’re dim or not working, your battery may be drained.

Try the Gear Shift
If you drive an automatic, make sure the car is fully in “Park” or try starting it in “Neutral.”

Listen for Clicks
A clicking sound often points to a weak battery or starter issue.

Keep Jumper Cables Handy
Sometimes it’s as simple as needing a boost. Having a set of jumper cables in your trunk can save the day.

Remember: these quick checks can help you troubleshoot at home. If the issue continues, then it’s time for a professional to take a look.

Fall mornings in Edmonton can be frosty, and social media is full of “quick fix” hacks to beat the ice. But not every trick is safe for your vehicle.

❌ The Hack: Spraying vinegar or even soda on your windshield to stop ice from forming overnight.
⚠️ Why It’s Bad: Vinegar can eat away at your wiper blades and rubber seals, while soda leaves behind a sticky residue that attracts dirt and grime. Both options can actually cause more problems than they solve.
✅ Do This Instead: Keep your vehicle protected the right way. Top up with winter windshield washer fluid rated for sub-zero temperatures. It’s designed to handle the cold while keeping your glass clear and your wipers in good shape.

At Tirecraft 118, we believe safe and smart solutions are the only way to prepare for Edmonton driving conditions. If you’re unsure whether your vehicle is ready for the season, stop by and let our team check your fluids to ensure you’re set for fall and winter.

Social media is full of creative car hacks, but not every viral idea is safe for your vehicle. With fall bringing frosty mornings, slippery leaves, and darker commutes, it’s more important than ever to keep your car prepared the right way.

❌ The Hack: Pouring Coke on corroded battery posts to clean them.
⚠️ Why It’s Bad: The acidity can eat away at metals and leave behind a sticky mess that causes even more corrosion.
✅ Do This Instead: Use a proper battery cleaner, or let our team at Tirecraft 118 test and service your battery. Pro tip: keep a portable jump starter in your trunk this fall. It’s a safe accessory that can get you out of an emergency. And don’t forget to carry a set of booster cables too.

Stay safe, YEG. Real people, servicing real life.
