Over May long weekend, Alberta RCMP increased patrols across the province, removing 122 impaired drivers from the road. The majority had failed roadside tests, while others were given warnings or suspended for having alcohol in their system.
Officers also issued more than 1,200 tickets, mostly for speeding, distracted driving and not wearing seatbelts.
Tragically, the weekend still saw 25 serious injury collisions and six fatalities.
“The Alberta RCMP will continue to have an enhanced presence on provincial roadways every long weekend,” says Sgt. Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic. “Everyone has a role to play—choices like driving sober, staying focused, and buckling up can save lives.”
