**Every Child Matters: Honoring Orange Shirt Day**
Today, September 30th, Caribbean Drives joins communities across Canada in observing Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This day holds deep significance as we remember the thousands of Indigenous children who were taken from their families and communities, forced into residential schools where they were denied their languages, cultures, and identities. We honor the survivors who carry these experiences with them, and we remember those who never made it home.
The orange shirt symbolizes more than solidarityโit represents a promise to listen, to learn, and to never forget. It challenges us to confront uncomfortable truths about our shared history and to actively participate in the healing journey ahead.
At Caribbean Drives, we understand the profound importance of community, culture, and identity. Just as Caribbean communities have preserved their rich heritage across generations, we recognize the resilience of Indigenous peoples who continue to fight for their rights, their stories, and their future.
Today is a call to action for all of us:
- Educate ourselves about the residential school system and its intergenerational impacts
- Amplify Indigenous voices and perspectives
- Support Indigenous-owned businesses and initiatives
- Have meaningful conversations with family, friends, and colleagues about reconciliation
Wearing orange today is just the beginning. Real reconciliation requires ongoing commitment, compassion, and courage to create a more just and equitable society for all.
Every Child Matters yesterday, today, and always.
