BACK TO THE FUTURE
A late summer 200-nautical mile round trip to Shelburne County by 38' Cape Sable "Stanley" included a stop in Cape Sable Island's busy commercial fishing port of Clark's Harbour (builder Scott Dagley, left, and co-designer John Steele shown onboard). The visit was an homage to the traditional home of the Cape Islander workboat and to Stanley Greenwood, the famous Cape Sable boatbuilder after whom the pleasure boat has been named. (Eric)

38' Cape Sable STANLEY "returns" to Clark's Harbour Monday (August 22)

It will be “back to the future” when an innovative, Lunenburg County-built 38’ pleasure boat ‘returns’ to the home of the original Cape Island workboat that inspired the design.

Cape Island Cruisers’ 38’ STANLEY, named after legendary Cape Sable Island boatbuilder Stanley Greenwood, will visit Clark’s Harbour Monday, August 22. The boat’s builder and co-designer, Scott Dagley of Dagley’s Boatworks; and co-designer John Steele, founder of Covey Island Boatworks, will be on hand to show the boat and answer questions 10 am - 11 am.

A stylish new limited-production 38' ocean-capable motor cruiser aims to serve the growing market demand for accessible recreational boating options.

THE FOREDECK WELL: DESIGNED FOR COMFORT & SAFETY

You’ve been there: the captain sends a crew member to the bow to handle dock lines or lower the anchor. The design of a Cape Sable’s foredeck well gives that crew the much greater security of standing down in the deck — a safe and comfortable position especially in a swell.

And this foot well — positioned so the sloped front of the cuddy cabin provides a back rest — creates lovely seating right up at the bow: a forward cockpit to enjoy the ride. In calmer conditions the well complements the raked slant of the front of the caddy cabin to create a forward cockpit: a nice spot to enjoy the ride.

FIRST FUEL TEST CONFIRMS FUEL-EFFICIENCY:
(Much) Less than 2 gph @ 8 knots

In a world where 2 gph at 8 knots is considered excellent, the first test continued to show that the Cape Sable design as one of the most fuel-efficient live-aboard trawlers currently being built.

For a boat designed for cruising the ocean in comfort and safety, fuel-efficiency is a wonderful bonus.

"YOU COULD STEAM TO BERMUDA!"
Veteran sailor Tom Gallant endorses the Cape Sable design

About Cape Sable 'Stanley', Tom says, "She’ll make a fine live-aboard — makes no fuss going through the water at ten knots, sips just over a gallon an hour, giving her a cruising range of nearly a thousand miles. You could steam to Bermuda. She’s the kind of boat a retired sailor would love. The more experience you’ve had on the water, the more you’ll appreciate her virtues."
