Well back to the shop. We have moved and I am now in a larger space

I kept all the wrapping paper from our Christmas this year and it is time to do another Christmas wrapping paper work bin

All of this should be worm castings aka fertilizer in 3-4 months.

I still have half a garbage bag full of wrapping paper to add to the bin as bedding as well

Harvest Day today. I am getting lots of castings. 😊

Ever wonder if wrapping paper can be recycled? Most waste management companies don’t want to bother with it and say no that it is not recyclable but my red wiggler worms say otherwise. This was harvested from my experimental wrapping paper bin.

All I used was left over Christmas, Birthday and other wrapping paper along with cards and tags. I picked out the tape but the rest of it was turned into castings.

I collected enough fast food waste to start another “Fast Food” compost worm bin. I would like to say thanks to our friends that help me collect this stuff. I wouldn’t be where I am at if you didn’t collect stuff for me.

This bin will only consist of fast food material for the bedding along with left over food and some kitchen scraps. So far I have put in material from A&W, KFC, McDonalds, Pooty’s Poutine, Wendy’s, Dairy Queen and Fat Burger.

There was even some left over fries from A&W and a half eaten burger from Fat Burger.

In 3-4 months it will go from the before pictures to worm castings.

I would have laughed if someone told me about 20 years ago that I would have a worm farm in my garage by the age of 44 and would spend my Sunday afternoon picking worms from one tote bin and moving them to another.

Well that is what I did today. I harvested my “fast food” bin today. This black gold or worm castings was mostly fast food containers/wrappers, bags, coffee cups, beverage containers, left overs etc. The contents came from McDonald’s, A&W, Dairy Queen, Subway, Pootys Poutine, Starbucks and other places.

I have been asked why I do this and yes I have been told that I am crazy for doing it so here is why I do it. Did you know that only 9% (on average world wide) of the things put into the garbage and recycle bins gets recycled? The rest will either go to landfills or be incinerated.

I do this because I can and 90-95% of the things I am given will get repurposed, recycled or reused. It doesn’t matter if it is fast food containers, left over/spoiled food or plastic. Most of it will be recycled.

I would like to be able to increase that to 100% some day.
