Terrible news coming in off the Grand Banks today. Our thoughts are with the missing crew members and the rescue personnel.

Three crew members have been rescued, with a search on to find the rest of the 22-member crew, says the Spanish government.

Attention all fellow boaters in the Conception Bay and surrounding areas!!
Hurricane Larry looks likely to pass over the Avalon Peninsula late Friday night and early Saturday morning according to the latest modelling. Please make sure you are prepared BEFORE the storm hits! This has the potential to be a big event and we
must prepare for the worst and hope for the best!

1.We highly recommend if you trailer your boat to haul it today or early tomorrow and store somewhere safe with trailer wheels chocked front and rear and those chicks tied together to prevent movement.
2. Remove all canvass, aerials, flags, secure halyards, tighten rigging etc.
3. Add extra dock lines and secure to multiple strong points to spread out the load. Don’t be afraid to tie extra lines around beams or pilings. We don’t trust small cleats secured with lag bolts!
4. Make sure batteries are charged and bilge pumps and floats are operational.
5. Keep deck scuppers clear and hatches dogged tightly.
6. Fenders! Fenders! Fender! You can’t have too many!
7. If your boat is on a mooring we highly recommend moving to to a secure location or hauling it out altogether. Moorings are always an issue here and tend to drag in storm surges and strong winds.
8. Secure or remove any loose items on deck or around the wharf.
9. Remove small dinghies and tenders from the water and bring them to a secure and sheltered location.
10. If you must check on your boat during the storm only do so when it’s safe. And NEVER be around a wharf or boat during strong winds without a buddy! That being said, it’s always best to stay home and if you’re prepared properly hopefully everything will be ok.
11. BE SAFE!!

C-Tow Conception Bay crew will be monitoring the storm and will be in the area. While our vessel will not be leaving the dock during the storm we are available if your vessel takes water with de-watering pumps. We will also be available after the storm if anyone needs assistance with their vessel.

Please prepare yourselves and be safe!
