Hey everybody,
I hope you all had a nice weekend. I am just letting everyone know that the week of the 14th and 21st. I will be out of commission those weeks.

Hey everyone,
I’ve been seeing more and more of piston seals that look like this or that are over lapping the caliper piston. If you are replacing your own brakes please make sure that the seal is flush with the piston and not twisted. If they are not it is a sure fire way to get a seized caliper in the not so distant future. Using a small flat head strew driver and silicone spray can help with putting the seal its proper spot.

Today I when had a few free moments I installed some fibreglass on the old Matrix. Trying my hand at some body repairs. I had to brake out an old college textbook to remember how, but luckily a friend at the station has done this a few times and gave me some good tips. Hoping it will look nicer than before.

A friend of mine with a 2014 Tacoma 2.7L was worried about his engine making a terrible rattling/grinding sound. They Googled it and was told it could be a VVTI or timing chain. So they thought their engine was done. On a cold start that is very true but this noise was all the time.
- when it comes to engine noise you have to determine where the noise is coming from. Top or bottom end, intake or exhaust. I was taught to first see if the noise is coming from the inside or outside of the engine.
- when I removed the serpentine belt I thought the customer was going to drop. The noise was gone when we started it back up.
- turns out the rattling/metallic noise was the A/C compressor pulley that was ready to come apart. I would take a A/Cc compressor or an engine replacement easily.

Hi everyone, I just had a customer come in with a terrible vibration at any speeds and in the steering wheel. I discovered that the front wheels had 4 out of lug nuts loose with the exception of the one that requires the wheel lock. I wanted to post this to warn everyone that someone might be going around loosing lug nuts. It’s extremely dangerous and I hope they get caught.

Had a customer with a 2014 F150 ecoboost. Nice truck but had an obvious issue with the exhaust. Smoke was pouring out the exhaust. Local shop quoted him for head gasket and fuel injectors.
- no codes, warning lights or misfire counts. Coolant and fuel pressures were good with no blow by.
- disconnect the injectors one at a time and found no change to the smoke coming out.
- I have seen this before from my time at BMW. Turbocharge with an oil leak.
- after inspection there was really nothing obvious but had room to remove the air inlet pipe and using my scope was able to determine that the inlet turbine didn’t want to move. The bearing was seizing, causing all the pressure from the exhaust to head down the pipe instead of going to the engine.
- the customer will need a turbo assembly but it will be much cheaper and much easier that replacing a head gasket.
