FIrst metallic blend I've ever done, and it was completed without any professional spray equipment.

The front fenders on this GMC were color-matched to the original royal blue metallic using only 2K aerosol products, including direct-to-can sealer, basecoat, and 2K clearcoat.

Out of curiosity, I had AI analyze the finished result from multiple photos. The assessment was that the color value is very close to the adjacent panels, the metallic orientation is consistent, there are no obvious signs of mottling or striping, and the gloss level blends well with the rest of the truck. AI also noted that any slight variation appears to be from the age and weathering of the original paint rather than a mismatch in the refinish work. Not quite doneJust a quick denib and polish to remove a couple of dust nibs and any light overspray, and this one is finished. The customer is extremely happy with the outcome, and for my first metallic blend done entirely with 2K aerosols, I couldn't be happier either

For a first attempt at blending a metallic color with aerosol products and no professional spray gun, I'm pretty proud of the outcome. Not perfect, but proof that good prep work, patience, and attention to detail can go a long way.

Sometimes customers get a little nervous when they see me taking a sander to a fresh paint job. After all, sanding brand-new clear coat seems completely backwards!
