🚗 Getting Ready to Renew Your Alberta Driver's Licence or ID?

Starting July 2, 2026, Albertans renewing or obtaining a driver's licence or ID card need to bring a few additional documents to their Registry appointment.

Current driver's licence or ID (if you have one)
Alberta Personal Health Card (printed card or digital through the MyHealth Alberta app)
Proof of Canadian citizenship or immigration status, such as:
• Canadian Birth Certificate
• Canadian Passport
• Canadian Citizenship Certificate
• Permanent Resident Card
• Government-issued immigration documents

If the name on your citizenship document is different from your current legal name, be sure to bring original name change documentation as well.

Some registry services will be temporarily unavailable due to a Government of
Alberta system update. This will be all of Alberta and all registry offices.

This includes:
Driver’s licence and ID renewals, changes, and upgrades
Vehicle registrations, renewals, and transfers
In transit permits, driver abstracts, and Safe Roads applications
Knowledge tests and road tests

Dates to know:
Driver’s licence and ID services: June 28 to July 1
Motor vehicle services: June 30 at 2:30 p.m. to July 1

To avoid delays, please complete any urgent
transactions early. All services will resume on July 2

🚗 Vehicle Registration Reminder 🚗
If your surname or company name begins with the letters “Cl,” “H,” or “Sc,” your vehicle registration expires this month. Make sure you renew before the deadline to avoid a fine. Your registration will expire at midnight on June 30th.

Driving without valid registration in Alberta can result in a minimum fine of $230.

What you will need when you come in:
Registration certificate
Insurance details
Any outstanding fines must be paid and processed first

🚗 Attention vehicle owners with surnames starting with D&G! YOU HAVE TWO DAYS LEFT TO REGISTER! Don’t let your vehicle registration expire! The deadline is Thursday, April 30th, at midnight. Ensure you meet all requirements before the month ends. Driving an unregistered vehicle in Alberta can lead to a $420 fine. Renew your registration on time to avoid penalties.
