Most mechanics inspect a truck for what's broken or about to break. That's not good enough for us.

We're going around this truck checking every single air line , snipping the zip ties, tracing wear points where a line's been rubbing against a fitting for years. It's the kind of thing you only catch if you're building to a higher standard, not just a passing-inspection standard.

STOP — before you wire a brake controller on your RV hauler, watch this.

Most brake controllers weren't built for heavy-duty trucks. This one is. The Direct Link connects straight into your truck's OBD network, and once it's wired into our CANBoard, the whole hookup takes just 4 wires: white for ground, red for the brake light, blue for the outgoing trailer brake signal. Every connection is screw-secured so nothing works loose down the road — no guessing, no redoing it in six months.

30 seconds of safety… then we’re done talking about it.
Wear the right boots.
Have a buddy with you.
Keep your phone on you.
Eye protection. Hearing protection.
Fingers, eyes, and ears don’t grow back.
Okay. Safety talk over.
This is a 2019 Mack Anthem with 500,000 miles.
M8 engine (which is really a Volvo) and Volvo transmission — Mack just names them differently.
Already on the test drive I’m seeing issues:
The cab is bouncing up and down instead of settling after one bounce.
That’s tired shocks.
And standing still? You can clearly hear air leaking in the back.
We’ll track those down.
A proper test drive tells you more than staring at the truck ever will.
Even if you don’t have the right license, get someone who does and take it for a real run.
We’re going to dig into this one — shocks, air system, and everything else that matters when you’re turning a high-mileage highway tractor into an RV hauler.

One BLOWN TIRE = A $3,000 Bill ??? (Nobody Tells You This)

Most people think a blown tire just means buying a new one and getting back on the road.

On an RV Hauler? Not even close.

Here’s what actually happens when one of those big commercial tires lets go while you’re towing a heavy fifth wheel:

• New tire + mounting: $600–$1,000+
• Roadside call-out or heavy tow: $500–$1,500
• Possible fender, underbody, or wiring damage
• Lost travel day + hotel
• Stress and safety risk

It adds up fast… and I’ve seen the total hit $3,000 (or more) more than once.

The part nobody talks about?
Most of these blowouts are preventable if you know what to watch for and how these HDT tires actually behave under real RV loads.

I’ve been building and driving these haulers for years, and this is one of those “wish someone told me earlier” lessons.
