BIG NEWS: We’ve expanded the team! 🐾

We are thrilled to introduce our new Lead Diagnostic Specialist, Barnaby. After a rigorous interview process involving several treats and a very thorough vetting of his tennis ball retrieval skills, he’s officially joined the Proper Motor Works crew.

Barnaby specializes in:

Identifying "ruff" engine noises.

Stress-testing the durability of luxury car upholstery.

Providing 100% organic tail-wagging customer service.

He’s currently accepting new clients for "paws-on" inspections. Stop by the shop today to meet him—he works for belly rubs!

Our customer brought us this beautiful example of a 2011 Subaru WRX STI. Unfortunately there was a slight knocking type noise under acceleration. We had it diagnosed with an issue with the bottom end of the engine.

We thank our customer for trusting us with this major repair. With help from our friends we had the power plant out and fully rebuilt. A brand new short block, oil pump and VVT sprockets. An improved oil pump pick up and a full valve job including some new valve spacers to ensure the engine would run perfectly.

Today at Proper Motor Works.

We have a 2001 Toyota Camry with a fault code P1135 - Oxygen Sensor Heater circuit. Another mechanic shop has replaced the oxygen sensor.

With further testing we found the sensor to have a good power signal and is pulling amperage as the ECM is ground the circuit properly. However the resistance of the heater circuit is 15 ohms over specifications and the amperage is too low.

The previous shop had missed that in 2001, Toyota had made all of their vehicles California Emissions compliant and installed the wrong oxygen sensor.

We've got an OEM Denso sensor installed that has the correct resistance and no longer sets the P1135 fault.

🎅 Official Sleigh-Status Update from Proper Motor Works! 🛷💨

Santa dropped off the big red sleigh this morning for some last-minute turbocharger tuning and a reindeer-power inspection. Since we’re the only shop in town he trusts with his high-performance gear, we’re going all-in to get him back in the air!

To celebrate a job well done, our team is heading home to enjoy some milk and cookies (and maybe a nap).

We are Moving!

Proper Motor Works is moving to a new, bigger, more secure location.

As of September 30th we will be moving our shop to 5220 1A Street SW. This move brings a larger location allowing us to serve our customers more quickly and efficiently.
