Our Head of Global Partnerships, Jake Pickering, recently returned from a trip aboard Pacific Yellowfin, a one-of-a-kind experience exploring the remote coastline of British Columbia.
Powered by her original 80-year-old engine, this classic wooden yacht moves steadily through the fjords of the Great Bear Rainforest, one of the most biodiverse and remote regions on the planet. The crew are local experts, shaping each day around the conditions and wildlife activity, from humpback whales surfacing close to the yacht to quiet moments surrounded by ancient forest.
Mornings start by opening the portholes by hand as pine-scented air fills the room and the sound of water can be heard against the hull. As Jake puts it, a simple ritual that reminds you what travel can feel like when you slow down.
“There’s a timeless, rustic elegance to Pacific Yellowfin. You see the polished pipes in the bathroom, feel the solid brass locks and open the portholes by hand. Everything is beautifully manual, You’re constantly reminded of where you are and how remarkable it is that places like this still exist.” — Jake Pickering
With local chefs Kelley and Ben in the galley introducing regional ingredient’s and stories from the coast, this charter captured what we value most, authentic connection, adventure in the world’s most wild destinations and a true sense of place.
