Some vehicles are built to sell. This one was built to make a statement. 🍂

The Chevrolet SSR (Super Sport Roadster) might be one of the boldest things GM has ever put into production. It's a two-seat pickup with a power retractable hardtop and a V8 under the hood, styled after Chevy's late-1940s trucks.

GM built it from 2003 to 2006, and only about 24,000 were made. Each one was assembled at the small Lansing Craft Centre rather than on a regular truck line.

What makes it one of a kind:
🔻 The hardtop folds away behind the seats at the push of a button. It's a coupe, a convertible and a truck in one.
🔻 Under the tonneau cover is a bed with a hardwood-slat floor, a nod to classic pickups.
🔻 Staggered chrome wheels (bigger in the back) give it that hot-rod stance.
🔻 It's still a real truck underneath: body-on-frame, rear-wheel drive, V8 power.

Some people called it too weird when it came out. Twenty years later, it still turns every head in the parking lot, and nothing else has ever come close to it.

The original was built to win races. This one has a supercharger. 🍂

The 1969 Camaro Z/28 might be the most famous first-generation Camaro there is. Chevy built it to compete in SCCA Trans-Am racing, which had a 5.0L engine limit. To fit under it, Chevy made a high-revving 302 cubic-inch V8, officially rated at 290 hp, though the real number was widely believed to be higher.

Chevy didn't even advertise it much. The name came from its option code, RPO Z28, and only about 20,000 were built in 1969. Now they're one of the most collectible muscle cars ever made.

This one keeps the classic look and adds modern performance:
🔻 A Magnuson-supercharged LS3 V8 in place of the original 302, with modern GM power and reliability.
🔻 A Muncie M22 "Rock Crusher" 4-speed manual. It gets its nickname from the gear whine it makes.
🔻 Four-wheel disc brakes that look right for the era and can handle the extra power.
🔻 PPG Hugger Orange paint by Hill's Hot Rods, with the correct black Rally stripes.
🔻 A Deluxe-style interior. The modern audio is hidden so the cabin still looks factory.
🔻 A body-off, nut-and-bolt restoration that's certified by Jerry MacNeish, one of the best-known Camaro authenticators.

From the outside it looks like it did in 1969, but it's built for a lot more power than the original.
