📸 Take a look behind the scenes of NASCAR’s all-new battery electric vehicle (BEV) prototype!

As a core feature of NASCAR’s IMPACT sustainability program, this race car is built with Bcomp’s high-performance flax-based reinforcement materials that boast a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to traditional materials while improving safety.

This project marks a significant milestone for Bcomp in the US motorsports scene, driving innovation and setting new standards for sustainable lightweighting in racing and beyond.

NASCAR’s Vice President of Vehicle Design, Brandon Thomas, added, “Integrating sustainable innovations into the design process helps set the standard for sustainability across our industry and supports forward progress towards the company’s sustainability goals and targets”.

Flax is an incredibly versatile plant that has been used for centuries. It has been used for textiles, clothing, and flax oil. The excellent mechanical properties of flax make it a perfect renewable raw material for high-performance composites, too.

Based on the all-new 2024 Mustang Dark Horse street-legal performance car, the Mustang GT4 racer contains a Ford Coyote-based V-8 engine developed by Ford Performance and assembled by Ford in Dearborn, Michigan. Longtime Ford partner Multimatic will build every Mustang GT4.

The Mustang GT4 race car also features Multimatic DSSV dampers, a Holinger dog-ring gearbox, paddle shifters with pneumatic actuation, natural fiber body panels, as well as a unique aero package developed to meet GT4 category targets.

and were great to see. Multimatic is involved with the IMSA Series and has raced the Mazda RT24-P, Ford Mustang GT4, Mercedes AMG GTD and is involved with the Ford GT program. Riley Technologies is fielding a 2-car Porsche IMSA GTD team. The founder, Bob Riley, is in his 90's and still comes into work everyday!

Yesterday, was the second day of visits on our USA Business Development Programme. Thank you to NASCAR R&D Center who both helped with arranging this year's programme and also hosted our group at their facility, as well as Hendrick Motorsports and General Motors - The Charlotte Technical Center. Our group had a fantastic day of meetings and touring your facilities.
