Dyno day with the DP1!
The Dragon Prototypes “DP1” is a highly customized bespoke street legal race car owned and built by Clive Halligan-Davies. The goal today was to get the car on the dyno to start working through any teething issues in the path towards getting her on the road.
With the expertise of Mathieu at Alpine Autowerks, the build was officially alive, making power, and doing exactly what a fresh custom build should do — expose the next round of refinements.
We discovered a couple minor oil leaks early on which were quickly resolved. Although the DP1 started strong, the lower-than-expected oil pressure soon became apparent as temperatures came up. After some discussion and a couple calls, Clive was able to sort out the issue: the oil pump wasn’t up to the task running at very low RPM, and upgraded components were needed. The parts are on order and being shipped from Europe.
People see finished builds online and forget that this stage is completely normal on a serious ground-up project. Every dyno session teaches you something. Heat, load, vibration, and sustained RPM expose weaknesses you simply won’t find in the garage.
That’s the process.
The important part is that the foundation feels extremely promising, the team is learning more with every pull, and the DP1 is getting closer to becoming the monster Clive envisioned.
Stay tuned — this is only the beginning!
