- Commitment to Domestic Sales -Kawasaki Plaza & Kawasaki Rider’s Club KAZE - The Japanese motorcycle boom, which peaked in the 1980s, gradually began to subside. As a way to quickly adapt to the changing Japanese motorcycle market, Kawasaki reviewed its domestic sales structure and worked on new initiatives. Some of the most notable of these were Kawasaki Plaza and Kawasaki Rider's Club KAZE. The Kawasaki Plaza concept was launched during the Japanese motorcycle boom of the late 1980s with the aim of strengthening and improving the value of the Kawasaki brand, as showrooms were opened throughout Japan. These showrooms were modified into dealerships, evolving into the Kawasaki Plaza network we know today. The Kawasaki Rider's Club KAZE was established in 1988. KAZE stands for “Kawasaki Amusing Zone for Everybody.” The club's newsletter showcases touring spots and event information, and shares the fun of Kawasaki products with readers. Kawasaki Coffee Break Meeting events, held by KAZE and intended to connect Kawasaki with its customers, have been held regularly throughout Japan for many years.

Passed-on Enthusiasm The brand names and concepts featured on Kawasaki models during Japan's 1980s-era motorcycle boom have been passed down to current models. The ELIMINATOR, introduced in 1985, featured a long, low style and a powerful GPZ900R/Ninja engine tuned for acceleration performance. It went on to include 750, 600, 500, 400, 250, and 125cc models, each introduced to suit the intended market demand. Today, the ELIMINATOR remains popular for its long, low style combined with agility and straightforward handling. Another model passing down Kawasaki concepts was the ESTRELLA, which was released in 1992. It strongly reflected the design of the legendary Kawasaki 250 Meguro SG. It had a classic style, pulsating engine character, rich low-to-mid-speed torque, and a pleasant exhaust note; hallmarks of Kawasaki's original Meguro models also passed down to the W series. The current MEGURO S1 and W230 were developed with the exact intention of inheriting these concepts. Born in 1997, the SUPER SHERPA was named after “sherpa” guides who carry loads on mountain climbs in the Himalayas. With an engine tuned for low-to-mid range performance and a lightweight, straightforward-handling chassis, it could tackle a wide range of riding, from off-road trekking to city commutes. The current KLX230 SHERPA has evolved into a highly versatile and practical model, equipped with features like hand guards and smartphone connectivity.

Not to long ago, John rode home on our flagship sport bike the ZX10R

Can’t say for sure, but John probably had a bigger smile on his face leaving Burnaby Kawasaki than he did on his way in 😉
