U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order seeking to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America” as tensions between Canada and the United States continue to escalate.

Trump announced the move Thursday while again criticizing Canadian officials and accusing Canada of treating the United States unfairly. Trade tensions between Canada and the United States are escalating again as President Donald Trump threatens another round of massive tariffs.

Trump says the U.S. will impose 50 per cent tariffs on Canadian cars, trucks, auto parts and steel starting Jan. 1, 2027, after Prime Minister Mark Carney vowed to retaliate against new American duties. A Vancouver family is demanding answers after their 21-month-old sheepadoodle, Boomer, was killed in an attack involving two other dogs before a scheduled group walk.

Boomer was in the care of a professional dog-walking company when the attack occurred after he was reportedly tied near two other dogs waiting for the walk. A witness tried to intervene, but Boomer suffered fatal injuries and later died at an animal hospital. His owners are now questioning how the situation was allowed to happen and are calling for accountability.
