We set up Grant’s beautiful M1000R Beemer early this week.

More and more of today’s bikes have fully electronic suspension. This model had selectable drive modes where you can change the obvious traction control, anti-lock braking, engine braking, power delivery modes etc, as well as damping front and rear.

After setting base sag and preload spring support front and rear, we spent considerable time creating custom comfort and performance damping maps.

Electronic suspension… Better? Worse? Or just different.

ZX-14 DRAG BIKE

We worked with this amazing new customer as he prepared his drag bike for an upcoming competition.

He had added a 35 inch long swing arm, but was running the tire into the license plate bracket hard due to untested lowering link and dramatically under performing rear shock.

As the weight on a stock bike gets higher, or in this case, the leverage from a longer swing arm compounds, the valving, and especially spring rate quickly become inadequate to support the bike and rider. We calculated the new motion ratio and with a little bit of testing got it figured out.

SORRY STORM DAMAGE.

Currently our power, phone lines, AND even Internet are down here.

We are in and working (for now) but our only means of contact is Instagram or FB messenger for the day.

If you have an appointment we can still look after you, but you likely can’t get ahold of us. Sorry, should be very temporary.

AFRICA TWIN… REPLACE OR IMPROVE?

Aftermarket is always better, in the case of suspension, but if the stock shock has compression damping, rebound damping, and hydraulic preload, sometimes we can make a significant improvement in the load carrying capacity, comfort, and performance.

SBV TOOL KIT SAVED OUR FISHING TRIP👍

Last week, four hours from home, on the first day of a week long trip, our trustee 15 hp Merc started overheating.

Thankfully, I had brought along two of our demo SBV tool kits. Our BASE MOTORCYCLE KIT and our PRO MECHANIC kit.

These two kits allowed me (on the truck tailgate) to remove the bottom end completely to inspect the water pump as well as the intake and exhaust manifold up top to check for pressurization of the water jacket from a possible failed head gasket, and finally the culprit, I was able to remove and test the thermostat which had seized solid.

Without the tools in this these easy to roll up and store kits, I would’ve been sunk and the trip ruined. The SBV MOTORCYCLE kits are on our website and available for purchase now.

The tool kits will be available at higher end local dealers soon. Dealers contact us for details if interested.

SAG SET UP

The rider SAG on this big bore Kawasaki Street bike should be about 30 mm in the rear. This rider at maximum preload was in excess of 50 mm.

As expected, poor big bump compliance and poor handling. In the second photo, you can see that the shock shaft is polished right into the bump rubber. An Ohlins shock has a dust cap that sits a few millimetres outboard of the wiper. If the shock shaft is this clean with no evidence of dirt means he’s been pounding into the bumper significantly.

Have a look at your shock shaft above the bumper, sneak a zip tie in there or have an O-ring installed during a shock service. This will help you monitor how much travel the shock is using on a typical ride.

A street bike should only ever bottom the rear shock on a pothole or a big bump the rider doesn’t see coming.

We installed a new heavier spring, set the preload properly and sent the rider on his way, same-day appointment. Give us a shout for your suspension service needs or vehicle set up appointment. ATV / UTV / SNOW / BIKE.

AFRICA TWIN ES

David loves the fork revalve combined with and front and rear spring upgrade on his new Africa Twin from .

Like most North American riders, David didn’t quite fit the 150 pound imagined target of this Japanese big bore adventure bike. Finding both ends soft in terms of brake dive and mushy response, we revalved both compression and rebound up front in the one valving ‘leg’ and adjusted both springs.

To improve his summer adventures, David also grabbed a full SBV Tool kit!

SPYDER SUSPENSION

Elka Suspension makes fantastic front and rear shocks for the BRP Spyder family of vehicles.

Gregs beautiful beast needed a spring rate correction, so rather than remove the hydraulic preloader and remote reservoir from the frame, we brought our spring compressor to the bike LOL. Anyway, i was in mid job and thought this was kind of a cool photo. If you are looking for a huge improvement for your Spyder, give Accelerated Technologies a shout. The Elka Shock added compression damping, rebound control and remote hydraulic preload to the whopping NO adjustment of the stock rear shock on this trike.
