Welcome to our towing tip Tuesday!
Today we’re learning how to calculate your payload capacity and what exactly these terms we throw around mean.
Understanding what your payload capacity is plays a vital role in safe towing. Overloading your trailer can cause axle failure, suspension damage and difficulty handling the trailer on the road.
Terms and definitions,
GVWR - Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, the total maximum amount your trailer can safely weigh when loaded.
GVW - Gross Vehicle Weight, this is how much your trailer weighs empty.
Payload Capacity - the maximum amount of cargo weight that you can safely load onto your trailer.
Payload Capacity = GVWR - GVW
