VRRA Side Car Rides for Charity. The VRRA and it's members and spectators are a generous bunch: $200 raised from photos of this event and this is in addition to the $720 that was raised from the side car passenger rides themselves. A big thank you to all those that contributed, for the side car teams and that volunteered their time and rigs, the VRRA volunteers, as well as John and Dominique Bondar at Shannonville Motorsport Park for donating the track time.

The money raised went to Greater Napanee Connect who were raising money through Greater Napanee Pride to raise money for the Napanee Legion.

If you include the proceeds that was raised through the clubs 50/50 draws this season, the VRRA raised over $3500 for various charities this year.

More CASC Celebration of Motorsport racing action. Two of my favourite VARAC drivers and cars battling it out - Anselmo Beretta in his 1972 Porsche 911 RS and Simon Tomlinson in his 1974 BMW 2002 tii. Both consummate gentlemen on and off the track. Great to spend some time with both of them last weekend.

On the Nelson International Raceway 50th Anniversary weekend of motorcycle racing at what is now known as Shannonville Motorsport Park, it seemed appropriate to post one of my recent photos of Norm Murphy who is the son in law of John and Grace Nelson and married to their daughter Jackie. Norm was CMA race winner at the first Molson Superbike Challenge in 1982. He's still fast, humble, and an all around nice guy.

Posting on behalf of Neil Stanavech who was involved in a low-side off in corner 4 at Shannonville Motorsport Park at last weekend's VRRA Grand Prix.

Neil is up and about very slowly. While he did not suffer any broken bones he did sustain some soft tissue damage - in particular his left shoulder that took the brunt of the crash.

Neil would like to thank the trackside ambulance service team and the track doctor for their care and the VRRA bike pick up team. He would also like to thank race winner Martin Gaudreault who was the first on the scene and laid his bike down on the track and went over to check on Neil, Chris Fehr for packing up all of Neil's gear, and a bunch of other VRRA members who helped Neil - too many for Neil to remember them all.

Neil - wishing you a full and speedy recovery.

Things can change in an instant at a race track. One second things couldn't be better and the next second things suddenly are going sideways.

In this particular case - the change was over a few days .... getting some love from one of my favourite VRRA rookie's, Marissa Kasnya, on the back straight during Friday's practice session .. and then getting the one finger salute during her cool-down lap after her final race on Sunday in corner four - right by the marshal station. The one finger salute was certainly noticed by both marshals - and I had to explain that it was her trademark and was meant with humour and affection for her photographer.

After the race day ended, Marissa came up to me and was quite concerned that the marshals may have thought that she was giving them the finger.

MK: I hope the marshals didn't think that I was giving them the finger.
GD: Oh - they certainly noticed the finger and were not impressed.
MK: Oh no.
GD: They were both shocked and appalled. I tried to explain that you were giving me the finger and it was all in good fun... but they still radioed it in to race control.
MK: Are you serious?
GD: Very. They noted you for behaviour unbecoming a racer on track - and race control had to log the complaint and assess a penalty. They may want to discuss the matter further with you.
MK: (With the look of panic in her face) Are you serious??
GD: No - I am pulling your leg.

We both laugh before she reminds me that she is supposed to be the funny one and I am the serious one.

On a serious note - Marissa - it has been a pleasure to getting to know you and your sense of humour this season. Thanks for all the laughs, your friendship, and your support. It has been great seeing you progress and get more comfortable and faster on the track as the season went on. Looking forward to seeing you continue to improve next year.

Looking back at last weekend's VRRA Grand Prix, the highlight for me was unexpectedly seeing Rick Edwards at the track as a spectator after his very serious crash at round 3. Rick - I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers as you continue to recover.
