Well… we did a thing. 😂

Another piece of yellow iron has officially joined the McEwan’s fleet a Hitachi 25-ton excavator. Because apparently the solution to owning too much equipment is to buy more equipment. 🤷‍♂️😂

And naturally, before the paint even had a chance to get dirty, Oakley had already claimed the operator’s seat.

Most kids want a four-wheeler.

This one apparently needs 25 tons of Japanese engineering and a digging bucket. 😂

In all seriousness, this is a big addition for us. With roughly 55,000 lbs of excavator at our disposal, we’ve added a whole lot more muscle for heavy recoveries, environmental cleanups, excavation, demolition, site work, ditching, loading trucks, and moving large quantities of earth whenever the job calls for it.

Between the wreckers, trucks, trailers, dozers and excavators, we’re slowly reaching the point where the only reasonable explanation is that Tyson has a serious Marketplace problem. 😂

As for Oakley, judging by this video, apparently we didn’t just buy an excavator…

We hired another operator.

Unfortunately, he’s already asking about overtime, thinks bedtime violates the collective agreement, and expects to be paid in snacks. 🤦‍♂️😂

Welcome to the fleet, big girl. 💪

FOR SALE: CAT 215B

OLD, UGLY, LEAKY & TOO STUBBORN TO DIE

Selling my Cat 215B excavator,
otherwise known as the prehistoric yellow cockroach of heavy equipment.

Is it new? Absolutely fu***ng not.

Is it pretty? Not even from across the yard.

Does it leak? Of course it does. It’s an old Caterpillar. If it stops leaking, check the fluids because it’s probably empty.

Are the pins tight? Nope. There’s enough play in a few of them to qualify as recreational activity.

One window is broken, which saves you the trouble of opening it on hot days.

But here’s the important part:
THE OLD BASTARD WORKS.

This thing is an absolute tank. It starts, runs, digs, tracks, and does what an excavator is supposed to do.

It has been a solid, reliable machine, and I just installed a
BRAND-NEW TURBO, so apparently I care more about its future than its appearance.

It’s old-school Cat: not 47 computers, 19 emissions sensors and a $6,000 service call because it woke up with a check-engine light. It’s basically diesel fuel, hydraulic oil, steel and bad intentions.

THE GOOD:
Cat 215B
Strong, solid old machine
Reliable
Brand-new turbo
Built back when excavators were apparently designed for war
Still goes to work and earns its keep

THE “CHARACTER”:
Has some hydraulic/oil leaks
Pins have some slop
Broken window
Old enough to have opinions
Definitely not winning a beauty contest

I’m not going to pressure wash it, spray three gallons of Armor All on it and tell you it was “only used Sundays by an elderly gentleman.”
It’s an old excavator. It has worked. It shows it. And it still works.

Perfect for somebody who needs a cheap, dependable digging machine for a farm, gravel pit, land clearing, road building, or just wants roughly 20 tonnes of Caterpillar parked in the yard to make the neighbours nervous.

Come look at it. Run it. Dig with it. Crawl underneath and inspect every leak. Wiggle every pin. Bring your mechanic, your father, your grandfather, or some old Cat guy who hasn't trusted electronics since 1987.

No secrets. No lipstick on a pig.

Price: $17,500 CAD

Located in Havre Boucher Nova Scotia.

Lowballers welcome, but please make use of the machine and dig yourself a grave.

Trades considered if you have something equally unnecessary and difficult to explain to your wife.

CAT 215B: because sometimes you don't need a $200,000 excavator. You just need an old piece of s**t that shows up for work.

We were proud to host this multi-department vehicle extrication training at our yard.

A huge thank you to all of the firefighters, instructors, and volunteers who took part. It's great to see departments coming together to sharpen their skills and train for the moments when lives are on the line.

The time, effort, and dedication that goes into this kind of hands on training doesn't go unnoticed. We're grateful we could provide the space and vehicles to help make it happen.

Thank you to everyone involved for your commitment to keeping our communities safe. We look forward to helping with future training opportunities. Stay safe!

👋👋THIS JUST IN!👋👋

We've been informed by several local businesses that people are coming in, buying nothing, and just standing around talking about our Facebook posts.

Since we're apparently providing more entertainment than cable TV, Netflix, and half the news channels combined, we're considering a subscription model.

McEwan's Towing Facebook Access
💰 $2/month
💰 $20/year
💰 $50 if you laugh at every post but never hit the Like button.

Your membership helps fund important business purchases such as:

✅ Tow trucks we definitely needed

✅ Trailers we swear will make us money
✅ Equipment bought because it was "too good of a deal to pass up"
✅ A recently adopted 1996 Cat 990 loader that weighs approximately the same as a small planet

Failure to pay may result in:

- Public shaming

- Being volunteered for highway cleanup

- Being recruited as a heavy-duty mechanic

- Being asked to help move the Cat 990 when we realize how much fuel it burns

- Having to explain to our accountant why we bought another piece of equipment

For those who stop us in stores, coffee shops, job sites, and everywhere else to tell us how much you enjoy the posts, thank you. We genuinely appreciate it and get a laugh out of hearing it.

Until then, we'll keep buying questionable amounts of iron and posting our poor financial decisions for free.

Management
(Which is really just Tyson wandering around a Cat 990 saying, "You know what? I think I can make money with this.")

If you know someone who needs a 990 cat hit us up it's for sale!

🚨 WANTED: HEAVY-DUTY MECHANIC 🚨

We're about to build something stupid.

Not stupid in a bad way.
Stupid in a "why the hell would anyone build that?" kind of way.

We just picked up a 6x6 all-wheel-drive chassis.
The flotation tires are on route
The 40-ton wrecker is waiting.
The plan is simple:

Build the meanest off-road recovery truck Nova Scotia has ever seen.

No blueprints.
No instructions.
No YouTube mechanics.

Just fabrication, hydraulics, wiring, steel, busted knuckles, bad ideas, and enough horsepower to drag nightmares out of the woods.

If you're a Heavy-Duty Mechanic who can weld, fabricate, troubleshoot hydraulic systems, and isn't afraid of building something nobody else has built before, we want to talk.

✔ Heavy equipment experience preferred

✔ Hydraulic experience a huge asset

✔ Fabrication skills a must

✔ Ability to work independently

✔ Must enjoy solving problems that shouldn't exist

This isn't an oil-change job.
This isn't a dealership job.

This is a chance to help create a one of a kind recovery monster that will be pulling loaded trucks out of places they never should have gone.

Were also getting ready to build a monster of a highway class pull truck , Stay tuned!

Think you're the right person?

🚨 PROJECT MUD MONSTER HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN 🚨

Most people look at a bucket truck and see a bucket truck.

We looked at it and saw a problem solver.

Today we started tearing apart a 6x6 all-wheel-drive bucket truck to build what might be one of the nastiest off-road recovery rigs in Atlantic Canada.

✔ 6x6 drivetrain

✔ Massive flotation tires

✔ 40-ton wrecker body

✔ Built specifically for off-road recoveries

✔ Swamps, woods, logging roads, construction sites, bogs and places most tow trucks won't even attempt

This thing isn't being built to sit in a parking lot looking pretty.

It's being built for the calls that start with:
"Yeah... you're probably not getting in here."

Challenge accepted.

Everything is getting murdered out black from bumper to boom. No chrome. No fluff.

Just a purpose-built recovery machine designed to drag heavy equipment, trucks, and machinery out of places they never should have been.

We're documenting the entire build from start to finish, so keep an eye on the page.

Question for everyone:

What should we name this beast when it's finished?

Picked up a 2023 Peterbilt 389 today. 🚛🔥

No payments. No banker. No monthly reminder emails asking if I’m “still interested in refinancing.”

Just straight cash and poor decision-making like the good Lord intended. 😎

This thing’s got more lights than a Christmas parade, more chrome than a 2007 rap video, and drinks enough fuel to keep Irving shareholders smiling.

I told myself I was done buying trucks…

Then I heard the turbo whistle and suddenly I was signing papers faster than a guy financing a Sea-Doo during lobster season.

Now if you need me, I’ll be:

• staring at it in the yard for 4 hours

• wiping fingerprints off chrome nobody touched

• opening the hood randomly like I know what I’m looking at

• and revving it unnecessarily for “diagnostic purposes”

The neighbours think I’ve lost my mind.

The truckers understand completely. 🤝😂
