ECHNICAL CASE STUDY | BUGATTI VEYRON GRAND SPORT VITESSE

8.0L W16 Quad-Turbo | Intermittent Reduced Power & Boost Control Fault

When you're diagnosing a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, reading the DTC is only the beginning.

For this representative technical case, TEXA IDC6 Supercar diagnostics was used to investigate intermittent hesitation and reduced engine power under heavy acceleration.

DTCs included:

🔧 P0299 – Turbocharger/Supercharger Underboost
🔧 P0234 – Turbocharger/Supercharger Overboost – Intermittent
🔧 P0106 – MAP/Barometric Pressure Range/Performance
🔧 P0300 – Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire
🔧 P0171/P0174-type faults – Lean mixture/adaptation

Instead of assuming one of the four turbochargers had failed, the technician analyzed requested vs. actual boost pressure, MAP data, fuel correction, lambda values, misfire activity and boost-control commands.

Under load, the pattern became clear:

Requested Boost ↑ → Actual Boost Lagged → ECU Compensation Increased → Actual Boost Overshot Target

Further testing identified a small charge-air leak at a pressurized connection, along with an intermittent pressure-sensor/connector signal deviation.

The charge-air leak caused actual boost to fall behind the requested value. The ECU compensated, while inaccurate pressure feedback affected its ability to properly regulate boost.

After Repair

✅ Requested and actual boost tracked correctly
✅ Boost overshoot eliminated
✅ Fuel correction stabilized
✅ No abnormal high-load misfires
✅ P0299, P0234, P0106 and P0300 did not return

The lesson?

A turbocharger DTC does not automatically mean the turbocharger has failed.

DTC → Live Data → Electrical Testing → Mechanical Testing → Repair → Verification

That's the difference between reading codes and diagnosing the vehicle.
