There are reports of an outburst from Shintaphu Lake, located below Wakila Mountain in Lungo, Laya Gewog, Gasa, this evening. According to the information received, the incident occurred this evening, and the public has reportedly been moved to safer ground. Locals said they would be able to assess any livestock losses tomorrow.
However, an official from the National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology said a water-level monitoring station is located at Taktsimakhang, but no alert has been triggered so far. This could indicate that the water has not yet reached the station.
Shintaphu Lake is considered one of the 17 potentially dangerous glacial lakes.
The lake is located at the source of the Mo Chhu.
