What is your favourite moment from 75 years of Porsche Motorsport?
Le Mans, the Targa Florio or perhaps the Carrera Panamericana? Each is an iconic race inextricably linked with Porsche. Then there’s the Mille Miglia, Rallye Monte Carlo, Daytona and the Nürburgring. These are names and places where legends have been made – yet any attempt to capture Porsche’s greatest races in a single text is destined to fall short. Seventy-five years of motorsport simply offer too many highlights.
Then there are the people. Richard Attwood. Jacky Ickx. Timo Bernhard. all Le Mans winners. But what about Hans Herrmann, Derek Bell, Marc Lieb and so many others? It is almost impossible to do justice to every Porsche racing great. And the cars present the same challenge: the 550 Spyder. 917 KH. 935. 956. 919 Hybrid. The 963. Even that is only a shortlist of the shortlist.
But one thing is certain: it all began with a single car. And the story of 75 years of Porsche Motorsport is also the story of 75 years of customer racing.
