Correct evaluation of crater formation and successful removal

The appearance ranges from very shallow dents in the last coating layer to serious wetting disorders reaching very deep to the basecoat. The causes are manifold: oil, wax, fat, and silicone residues, dirty disposable gloves, skin- and haircare products, improper use of paint additives, or contaminated spray air from other operating areas. Here are our tips for the avoidance and repair of craters!

Avoidance:
Use silicone-free products in the paint shop, clean the surface thoroughly with silicone remover and check whether one of the error sources mentioned above exists.

Repair:
In case of minor damages: Apply several thin, dry sprayed layers. In case of major damages: sand the coating until you get to the “healthy” layers and repaint. Thoroughly clean before repainting and avoid sources of error.
